This is a kothimoda Kumar karda that was ordered by James Mattis but as we all sadly know James is not here to take delivery of this knife so I will auction it off and send a percentage of the proceeds to Toni Mattis. By the way, I sent Toni a check for $805 from the sales of the knives that James had with Terry Sisco. One fine gentleman tossed in an extra $50 and another $5 which I am sure will be appreciated by Toni. Uncle Bill paid the shipping and handling expenses so Toni could get the total amount.

That taken care of, I am going to rate this knife as a 9.9 out of 10. It is perfect in every way, fit, finish, hardness, silver habaki bolster, silver buttcap all fine and marked with the Star of David, Kumar's mark on left side and HI logo on right side. But, there is a slight wave in the grind on the left side of the blade at the back about an inch ahead of the bolster. You have to look close to see it but it is there and this is worth a .1 deduction.

The scabbard is perfect and very nicely done.

I had a couple of other orders for this knife but in my daze at learning of Jim's untimely death I placed the orders somewhere and cannot locate them so if anybody recognizes this knife as one they have on order please contact me and I'll ship you one. I have a couple more in the works but the first one was for James and here it is.

I will keep this up for a week or so for bidding and then will ship it away to the highest bidder.

Minimum bid $150.

Post your bids here. Do not email them or call them in.

Let the bidding begin.

And, James, I know you would have loved this one and I am reminded once again of how much I miss your calls and your mail. A continued pleasant journey, my saati!

Uncle Bill,

I'd bet a few folks who might be interested have had busy weekends and such. Hopefully they'll be on board in a few days.

I couldn't imagine seeing a truly one of a kind piece like this, especially considering who inspired it, go for so little.

It really is a handsome piece, and would look great next to the full blown HI kothimoda.

If it goes for $200 I'll add a donation anyway. But I'd really like to see some more bids.

So call me ahead of time and take a weekend off.
