Jani has gifted me with this fine scandinavian puukko. It is also shown in his puukko thread.

I recieved it about a week ago and I am impressed with this knife. It has a fat handle which is very much a help with large gloves on. I don't have large thick winter gloves because I don't need them here, but the handle feels fine in the hand. It reminds me a lot of my Schrade "little fingers" which are my favorite fixed blade knife. This is a bit larger everywhere than they are, but it is a really nice size.

I wanted to show it off and publicly thank Jani for the gift. I will certainly put it to good use. Soon if the deer around here slip up. It'll make a great skinner.

Ed, I am glad you like it. You're very welcome. I think the maker Kivimäki lists it as Moose Puukko, designed to be general utility but also suiting skinning mooses and deer's. I am waiting eagerly that you can give us review how it handled real use. And as its made in Kauhava, which is for puukko's like Titusville is for traditional slippjoints, I think it will do its job nicely. I have one Kivimäki's utility puukko and its taken in past 18 years alot abuse and was my trusted companion in the army.

I had like 8 years on cupboard without much real use. You never had a puukko but wanted one so I figured out, since you have helped me, this way I could repay bit back and show my gratitude. A knife deserves to be used. use it well Ed!

Indeed I will Jani. Maybe if I can beat back my laziness and can harvest another deer, i can see how it works for skinning. It looks to be perfect for the job. If so, I will try to get some photos of it "at work". - Ed

I know this has been said so many times, but there are some real good people here, and it is such a pleasure to come in here and read what the Traditional "guys & gals are talking about...and there is a fantastic comradeship in the air as well.
It would be quite neat if there was to be a actual get together event in a while to come...so we could all meet properly, and have time to save so us who are quite some distance could plan and save to get there...still...dreams are free.
