There aint too much better than the joys of January. The smell of freshly mowed grass (and mowed lemons).

The beautiful flowers. The blossoming peach tree. Wonderful!

The cool mornings are Gods way of perfectly chilling the ripened grapefruit/lemons/oranges for a refreshing snack while laboring in the yard.

Just though I’d share some Florida love.

Thinking of you my Northern Friends!

I have a love/so-so like relationship with my S&M Heritage Jack and decided to just start using and abusing it. Today it was my yard knife, along with my Buck 192.

I believe the pair did a great job.

Pete, nice pics. Little cold up there these last few days. Hoping to get up past Bath and do some smelt fishing at James Eddy.

My beard froze almost instantly when I went outside

I recall, back in mid-January, 1966, starting out to return to Buffalo after 6 wonderful weeks in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. 4 of us found a derelict orchard with grapefruits and oranges pulling the branches to the ground they were so ripe! We filled a couple of sacks for the trip back, in an old Ford station wagon.
The best citrus fruit I have ever eaten.
It was years before I could eat those bitter trucked-in grapefruits again!!
We arrived in Buffalo in a blizzard! It was a wonderful time regardless!

Thanks for flashing me back, Jim; with a couple of interesting knives to boot!
That fruit will put a patina on the S&M for sure.
Sure looks nice and pleasant where you are

Nice pictures of a warmer climate than we are having in NE Ohio. Cannot wait till spring.

No such joys up here in Scandiland Dark (very) 19hours a day, -10c today and that's really unusually warm for the time of year.

No birdsong. No greenery anywhere until late April earliest. Mind you, I don't miss lawn mowing, I bought a robot mower to take care of that tedium and it's silent:thumbup:

However, knives thrive under all climes, fortunately:D:D

Great post onejim! It reminded me of visiting my brother in Florida a few years back, he had a grapefruit tree and they were as sweet as what we get for oranges up this way. One day he said, while slapping the trunk of a palm tree " I'll never live where these things don't grow!" Good times...
As for that Schatt, use it like you stole it! You never know, might just wind up becoming a favorite knife.

Sitflyer,

I hated grapefruit till I moved to Florida. Our ruby red grapefruit tree is awesome.

I want to love the schatt but the FF just drives me nuts, especially considering the price. I was too new to knives to realize it when I got it and should have returned it. I really love the style and type of knife, but rarely use. So recently I decided to just use it.

I am thinking of sending it off to one of the forum modifiers to fix the bolsters and replace the pen with a cap lifter. But not sure I want to put out the money.

Like that S&M Heritage Jack knife. Your pics bring back found memories of growing up in Hialeah with several mango trees in our yard and orange trees in our neighboors yard.

I think I'd like it further North..... less need for AC, less mowing the grass, less bugs, I might even enjoy cutting firewood. ;)

Any knife content here?

Beat me to it. The main forum is for discussion of knives. Weather and such belongs in the lounge. There was knife content in the first few posts. Unless there is more the thread will be closed.

Either of these will slice fruit like a champ! :)
