I have always loved the Jimmy Fikes Jungle Honey and the Fikes/Fogg Cloud cutter, and have wanted to try something similar for a while now.
This one is all chopper with a nearly 3" wide blade at the tip and a nice taper all the ways to the pommel.
It has a mild steel guard and and pommel that I browned and the blade has an antiqued finish. This thing has an incredibly powerful swing when gripped at the pommel, but can be choked up on for smaller tasks as well. The OAL is 23", with a 12" blade of 5160.
I am wanting to do one with a polished hamon now.
Let me know what you all think.

I wouldn't mind givin er a swing!

Excellent, I like it. Now polishing out a hamon on that thing would be a challenge but worth it IMHO.

Thanks very much for the comments guys. It really is something to hold, powerful and yet balanced.

Not my cup of tea. Blade's too short, tips far to blunt. But, beautiful job on the wrap.Sstill, I wouldn'd mention Fikes, this isn't even in the same universe.

I was in no way comparing my meager creation to the skill or ability of Mr. Fikes. I was simply inspired by his fantastic blades to make this one. Obviously the blade is different and solely a chopper. In fact this is probably the only blade I have ever made without a real point.
The long forward swept handle and the backward swept blade are the features that I really like on the Fikes and Fogg blades. No offense intended.

I was able to finish up the sheath today. Nothing fancy, but functional.

That's some really nice leather work to compliment it Ben. And you don't need to apologize or explain no offense intended. I think it's pretty clear that you were just saying the overall package inspired you. I didn't see anything close to a comparison being made.

I din't mean to sound abrupt Ben. My initial reaction was why in the world would you stick a 12" knife on a long handle, it's just unbalanced. The cut off tip, and I do mean cut off, was an eye stopper. I've made a few Fikes inspired cloud cutter type swords, mine were quite differnt than yours, or I guess, Jimmy Fikes too. It's always a fun thing to do.

But as I said, and I mean this truely, your wrap is excellent and I just wish I could do leatherwork as well.

Hello Ben!

I am with Lorien - would love to give this one a serious swing! Looks like it can get the job done - wrapping and sheath look great as well!

Best regards,
Alex

there is no more effective way to get weight out to the end of a knife than opting out of using a pointed tip.
I have a knife very similar in form to this, albeit smaller, and it is likely the most effective brush cutting/trailbuilding tool I have.
No knife does everything well, and sometimes for pragmatic reasons, aesthetics must be challenged.

I love it! Great fit and finish, and original design. Mentioning Fikes only made me think of the video of his jungle honey choppin' branches.. Ben has his own set of skills that he has shown "us" many times before.. and thanks again.
