hello blade forum members Im new to blade forums and to buying knives i made a post on a thread on tanto tips that was two years old so i figured i would correct my mistake and post my question in the proper area. i recently bought this knife from an army surplus store for 96$ with the plastic scabbard. (plastic scabbard rubs of the black coating I'm gonna make my own scabbard. plus theres way to many safety features on the plastic scabbard i want to be able to pull my knife out quick when i need too.)

i got it for about 96$ i was wondering if you guys think it is a good knife, good buy, or even just good in general. if any of you have used this knife before or know about the ka-bar knife company. i would like to read your replys on this thread you could send me a message or email me if you like too. thanks and ill be eagerly awaiting your responses thanks:D

Howdy,
- I think KaBar does a good job on its knives. 1095 Cro Van is a good low alloy steel and KaBar runs it to about 57HRC IIRC, a reasonable hardness for that alloy.

- Looks like you paid full retail price. This is fairly normal for brick and mortar stores. You likely would have paid significantly less had you bought it at an internet store.

- I don't care for tanto blades. They don't perform the jobs well that I need a knife to do. If I thought I needed to stab a steel drum or some such perhaps I would likely have a higher opinion of them.

welcome to bladeforums! i have the ka-bar short tanto - mostly for collecting purposes though since i have no real need for a tanto. i rarely collect knives since i buy them as users (and often times i beat the crap out of them!). with that said, my knife collection mainly consist of ka-bar/becker & esee knives.

ka-bar is a very reputable company. one of the best companies to deal with in my humble opinion. tooj and ethan becker from ka-bar regularly post on this forum by the way: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=827

just to let you know, the 'scaboard' is usually perferd to be called a shealth. no biggy, just scaboard sounds like a vikings sword shealth.
