A while back I got nostalgic for a knife I once had, and started a thread wondering if other members ever had similar feelings: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...es-you-ve-had-…-sold-em-…-and-wish-you-hadn-t

A few days later I received an email from markpmc offering to send me a knife exactly like the one I let go. I was amazed by the offer ….. even more so because Mark & I had never communicated before and didn't even "know" each other. I don't think we've even talked back & forth in a thread. Mark's offer was sent in a very simple, understated way - in kind of a "no big deal, if you'd like it I'll send it to you" manner.

If you've hung around the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades sub-forum for long, seeing acts of kindness such as this may not necessarily surprise you. Being on the receiving end of such kindness makes me feel very blessed.

I received the knife in the mail this evening and wanted to let Mark know that it means a lot to me. I'll never sell or trade this one, and it will get used! It's riding in my pocket as I type and it feels good to be reconnected to an old friend! Thank you Mark!

(I'm a lousy photographer even in the daylight, let alone under artificial lighting, so this is a copy of the knife Mark sent me):

This is why I'm going to b a paying member after the new year! I have seen more actions of this nature on this forum than I have seen anywhere else combined, period! It's not just generosity w/ physical items, but also sincere advise coming from a person that actually cares. No other forum I have come across can boast this claim. I know it's not all kitties and rainbows on here all the time, but the occurrence of negativity is rare (that I've seen). Glad you got your knife again and if karma or such really exists, I hope mark gets repayed ten fold. Thanks for sharing this :)

This place is great for many reasons, the generosity is but one.

Now off to read the original thread that i missed.

A few years ago I had been telling Charlie C. about a Case XX pre-USA tang stamped Barlow I'd been given for Christmas one year when I was a kid. Early teens at best. It was from a neighbor down the road who was into hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and even kept hunting dogs. He also collected knives.

I described the knife to Charlie and lamented that it had later been stolen from a gear bag when I was 18. To which he replied, "Why I have your knife right here. I'll send it to you!" Just like that and he did.

Mind you it the knife was stolen in Southern Ohio back in 1975 and this conversation was taking place around 2006, 7, 8 or so with Charlie up in B.C.. So it's probably not going to be the same knife, but I gotta tell you it sure looks a lot like the one I had. Scale character marks and all. It's certainly close enough and it ain't go anywhere if I can help it.

Yep. I hear ya.

Coyote711, Thank You for sharing this with us! It is acts like these that show how truly wonderful this little corner of the world is:thumbup::thumbup:
Funny thing is, that's my photo, and the knife in it was gifted to me by Railsplitter, and has been carried and used pretty much daily since, and it serves as a constant reminder to me of the good that resides in the fine folks hereabouts...

A hearty Good on You Markpmc, for keeping the candle lit :):thumbup:

Amos, that knife had to be yours!!
It had your name right there on it!! ;)

Great stuff :) Well done Markpmc. That's a great-looking knife, I always admire it when Sitflyer posts pics. It's nice to see someone post pics of a knife you know they're very happy with

Very nice to hear that Keith. Is it Zebrawood on that Cyclops Works? A very tidy pattern the EZ-Open, must've been a moment of madness getting rid of the original.....:D:D Still, Markpmc showed real generosity there, massive karma for all concerned.:)

Thanks, Will

I asked him a question once and he was very helpful. That's an awesome knife you received there. Is it a 440c #25? I didn't know that existed.

Thank you all for sharing in my Kudos to Mark - he definitely deserves it!

Will, yes it's Zebrawood. I just looked it up on the GEC site and discovered the #25EO in Zebrawood had a fairly low production run - 31 pieces total.

ALLHSS, 440C it is - love it!

Duane, that's pretty cool about Rick (Railsplitter) gifting you your #25EO … that means there's at least two of them around here that have special meaning to the new owners! ;) (Haven't seen Rick in a while - he's one of the good guys for sure).

I guess so. :D

Whenever I take it out and handle it I get reminded of both you and the fellow who gave me the original. He took me hunting a few times, took me and my farm beagle mutt with him to a dog show where I actually showed my dog, and even loaned me a 12 gauge shotgun one November to up my chances over my .410 at getting a rabbit for an elderly neighbor lady who really wanted to cook up a bunny for Thanksgiving. My mother and I ended up taking here some T-Dinner (we often took her a plate of something and visited), but I hunted everyday for a week to get her that bunny.

I'm sure he's gone on by now. Hopefully shooting trap and having good quail hunts over fine dogs in a place where the days are perfect fall weather.

Sometimes a knife is just a knife. But often enough, it's more.

Top-shelf stuff here, gentleman.

That particular #25 is so very sweet, the relative proportions of blade, shield, etch, end cap, cut-out-- it all works together so well. I'm glad one came back to you, Keith.

(Thanks, Mark!)

Amos, I'm not surprised, though I never tire of hearing of Charlie's thoughtfulness and generosity. I'm happy for you. :)

Congrats Keith! That's a mighty fine knife indeed. If you enjoy it half as much as Duane enjoys his then you're in for a treat.

I see my name was mentioned a couple times in this thread so I thought I would come out of the woodwork and chime in. I still drop in here from time to time but I don't post much anymore.

Duane, it's good to know how much you enjoy that knife. I see your photos of it in the EDC thread now and then. I was hoping it would bring you much pleasure and I couldn't be happier knowing that it does.

Good seeing you guys around here again. Kind of like the good ole days.

Enjoy that knife Keith!

Happy Holidays to everyone!

I'm not sure that's technically possible, but I agree. :D

Hurrah! That's worth the price of admission, right there...

... because of kindness like this.

Thanks for droppin' by Rick - good to see ya!

Around here it's sometimes said "Pics or it didn't happen" … here's my own pic of the #25 markpmc gifted to me :D:
