For Christmas my wife got me a BK9, but due to this painfully cold weather I haven't had a chance to use it. Well, I just couldn't sit and look at the brand new blade any longer, so today I decided to give her a facelift. I deramped, stripped, and patina'd the blade. I had planned on adding stainless hardware, but of course Lowe's didn't have the right size (Lowe's NEVER has what I am looking for), so I just added some blue Loctite to the factory hardware and called it good enough. To remove the thumb ramp, I used an angle grinder and then finished it using my Work Sharp's 80 grit belt. As a bonus, the spine now throws sparks off of a ferro rod. Nothing fancy with the patina, just a quick soak in vinegar and pineapple juice. Finished it off by adding a nice convex edge with the Work Sharp. Sorry the pics aren't the best.

Nice work, I like what you did with it, and it looks awesome with the firearm. Any day you can work on your knife is a good day.

That looks pretty sweet. Are you going to add micarta handles too? I've got them on a couple of my Beckers and they really makes a difference.

Probably not. I have them on my 16 and they are great, but I don't think I really need them on the 9 - I like how light it is with the stock scales.

Nice work man, looks freakin' good. I still need to mod my 9. The mod I have in mind is gonna take some time.

Looks great, like it's stonewashed. But damn I feel like a lazy a$$ when I see those pics....I need to be doin' some o' dat meself! Thanks for inspiring.

Thanks! Grinding the thump ramp down took quite a while, and stripping the new textured coating was considerably more difficult than the old epoxy paint. I hated the thumb ramp though so it was absolutely worth it.

Looks great without the ramp. Is the patina really dark or is it just my eyes?

Nice job man. I've got a few 9's and I plan on deramping one for sure. And that patina did come out pretty dark. Very nice.
