I finally got it! The King's Dagger! In one word: beautiful! :D

bgknife3040.jpg

Check it out here.

Maker: Robert Crowder
Weight: 11.85oz
Blade Length: 8.9"
Total Length: 14.5"
Blade Thickness: 0.2"
Blade Width: 1.3"
Blade: Damascus steel forged from 15N20 and 1084 carbon steels
Bolster: Sculpted Damascus
Handle: Sculpted fossil mammoth ivory
Comments: This masterful dagger is the work of Bob Crowder, president of the Montana Knifemakers Association. The twist pattern Damascus blade has been sculpted at the ricasso and leads into the highly sculpted Damascus guard. The handle is formed from cream toned fossil mammoth ivory that has been sculpted into diamonds. The diamonds form a comfortable feel in the hand and a dramatic appearance. The dagger is finished off with a Damascus pommel. Excellent fit and finish throughout and a spectacular dagger!

Congrats on such a fine purchase. This has "look CLOSELY at me" all over it.

Eyegrabbing photo as well.

Those of you looking at this piece may not realize what a departure this is from the work Bob is known for. I have had the pleasure of beind set up back-to-back with Bob at 8 of the last 10 OKCA shows in Eugene, OR in the spring of each year.

I have always encouraged Bob to take the skills that he has developed: excellent eye for design, and elements that are not of the "true norm", fantastic technical skills(grinding, fitting and finishing, his wife's excellent sheathmaking skills) and a flair for fair pricing, almost shooting himself in the foot for what he charges, makes me feel guilty, and run with it. To let the Art flow.

This is one of the few times that I have seen him do this, and I am really glad that this knife has a home. I have owned five of Bob's knives, and currently own two. My business partner owns three. I hope he does more work like this, he will totally blow you away with what he can accomplish. Let me say this now, in public; Robert Crowder could be one of the best knifemakers on the planet if he lets himself be. He has that much talent.

You, Sir, are very fortunate to own this piece. It is historic.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
