As JK Knives are no longer making my Knatchet design I asked Mark if he would be prepared to take the beast on, always up for a challenge he said YES !

For those that have been living in a cave this was my original drawing:

After a few slight changes( stretched the handle slabs out to 6", made the overall length 11 3/4" and did away with the extended tang) this was how the JK version turned out:

Part knife, part hatchet, all business...this is a quick vid I did the other day using mine:

Mark,

I have been eye-balling these for a long time, I'd be interested if the price is within my budget...

I have located a source of steel. It's an old friend :) , 8670m (L-6 equivalent) from Admiral steel. For the first year I made knives full time, I made them out of L-6. It makes a extremely tough knife. Due to the size of the peice of steel I am ordering and shipping costs, I need about 4 confirmed orders with a deposit of 50.00 to get the ball rolling. I don't mind making stuff that is out of the box as long as you guys want to buy it. Current price will be 225.00 plus shipping. Sheaths are available at a reasonable price, or contact Noah L as he has made sheaths for these before. If you want one post up in the order thread even if you contact me by other means.

L-6
A band saw steel that is very tough and holds an edge well, but rusts easily. It is, like O1, a forgiving steel for the forger. If you're willing to put up with the maintenance, this may be one of the very best steels available for cutlery, especially where toughness is desired. In a poll on the knifemakers email list back in the 1990s, when asked what the makers would use for their personal knife, L-6 emerged as the top choice.

All Carbon steels rust so give this a little love and you will have one of the best performers going !;)

Mark can you get 1/4 steel ?

Not in L-6 from Admiral. 3/16th is the thickest they offer. They do offer L-6 in 6 inch width which would be my reasoning behind using this material, and I can get 98 inches of 6 inch wide stock for around 100.00 plus shipping ( shipping is high) To compare, 36 inches of 6 inch wide O-1 in 3/16th stock is 150.00, and 1/4 inch O-1 is over 180.00...

Mark how many can yor get out of o1 1/4 36 2 ?

I don't think I could get any even with forging. The design is 3 inches wide. my choices are 2 inch wide stock or 6 inch wide stock. With six inch I would use my bandsaw and cut the stock down the middle at the 3 inch mark giving me two pieces of stock 3 inches wide, by 36 long. I could get three out of each 36 inch piece.

Woohoo, I got my Knatchet! It's got a maple grip and a great edge. The weather here is pretty nasty, but I'll try to get out tomorrow and get some user pics. Thanks Mark and Pit!

Can't wait to see some pics !;)

I can print off a template and build it exactly like the one in the picture. It's kinda like Burger King... you really can have it your way! LOL

Okay thanks, I'm thinking of getting one, I didn't like the look of it. At first, but then the thing had to start growing on me.
