At a recent gunshow 5 out of 6 knife dealers were carrying well-worn Emerson Commanders as their personal carry blade of choice. This is a fairly strong endorsement of teh Commander.

Is it possible that Emerson knives pays them to wear them for promotional purposes?

Personally, I think the wave-opening feature of the Commander is ingenious. Who woulda thunk it?

I really would like to buy a Commander but it's a bit out of my price league for now since I'm still waiting for the SIFU in D-2, as well as looking to perhaps buy a BM Pinnacle.

I wish other knife companies would license that feature from Emerson knives. Could you imagine a BM Axis, Spyderco Military, or even a REKAT Sifu with that feature?

I am a knife dealer and have owned/carried a couple of Emerson Commanders. After you use the wave feature a while, the liner lock wears and moves over to the right side of the blade. Sold mine before it got all the way over. The tall blade at the tip is not good for fine work at all, I don't like recurve blades either. The last one I got from my distributor was such a complete POS that I sent it back. Just the pressure on the thumbstud while opening would press the blade over far enough for it to scrape against the liners. My opinion is that on the last run of the Commander, Emmerson "cheapened" it up with thinner liners and they now will not hold their shape properly. If you buy one, get an older one and live with the liner moving all the way over. Their black coating is almost as bad as Benchmades. No denying that it is fast on the draw, the fastest folder in existance, but they are junk in my opinion, worse today than a year ago. Every time I think they are cool, I buy one and then regret it and sell it, I'll never own another.

So what do I carry? A Microtech SOCOM Elite in stonewash finish. Soon to be replaced with a LCC/DA. If I don't want to show a clip, a UDT down in the pocket.

Emerson endorsements to dealers to carry Commanders in their pockets...hmm.....

It could happen.

Could it also be that they like a recurve edge for everyday use?
Like the speed of the "wave" without the hassles of an automatic?
Perhaps they like the feel in the hand?
It certainly slices better then an AFCK when opening boxes.

Stay Sharp,
Sid
