The knife I want from Cold Steel (probably) can't exist anytime soon.

I just got a new Recon 1 spear point in CTS-XHP, and I love it despite a few fit and finish problems I was able to fix enough to comfortable EDC it. Using it has got me wanting something that probably can't exist for inter-corporate political reasons, though.

What I'd absolutely love is a spear point Recon 1 with a 14mm opening hole. More precisely: a knife nearly identical to the 4" spear point CTS-XHP Recon 1, except with the minimum blade design changes to accomodate a 14mm round opening hole instead of thumbstuds.

I don't think it would ever get made for the foreseeable future, but I'd love to have one.

I would love the same thing. I am a big fan if the Tuff Lite with the opening holes. I don't really like thumbstuds at all, and a hole would make the Recon perfection.

The Tuff Lite opening hole is alright. However, the round holes are much more fluid and pleasant for me to use. The 14mm round opening hole on my Manix 2, for example, is so easy to use that it almost feels like the knife's pivot is a natural joint of my body as I open it.

the biggest challenge would be to design the spine of the knife in such a way that it is obviously different in visual style from a typical Spyderco design.
