The knife makers choice

I thought I should post this video about a knife maker and his passion, testing steels and choose the right one. Not sure if a production knife company would even come close to this and I'd like to know whether other custom makers go that far. I have no benefit from posting this in any way, no affiliation with the knife maker presented here. In fact I just found out about him today. I was just amazed at how much effort he puts into testing the steel. Turns out, my favourite steel is up there!

That was a really cool video that doesn't deserve to fall off the front page without so much as a single reply.

I thoroughly enjoyed that! Thank you for sharing it.

Cool video but I had a feeling as soon as he said he was looking to upgrade from O1 that 3V (if tested) was going to be at or near the top.

Large manufacturing companies have MUCH more sophisticated testing equipment and are able to do their tests in on a much larger sample than just one or two knives.

Again, cool video but I think you are overstating the lengths to which he went. Obviously a ton of labor involved but he obviously doesn't have access to the precision testing devices major manufacturers. The ones that can tell you the exact force it takes for failure or to chip an edge rather than just smacking it arbitrarily with a crowbar or burying each tip at an inconsistent depth to see if the tip broke off.
