My bk2 isn't exactly the prettiest knife, it has built countless shelters, pryed open just about everything, (it's my favorite can opener) it has been through deer and dove, fish, metal and wood, and its stock scales have been completely busted off, haha. As soon as I can spend the money she will get micarta some day. As you can see from the pictures, (don't ask me how, I just noticed it one day) but it's entire tang is bent into a sort of curve. Haha, but it is still my go to knife. So Let's see your abused bk2's!

I really wish I knew when it even happened. Haha, I just noticed one day that it looked bent and sure enough.

Nice well loved. The bend had to have been done while prying. If you did that by hand without some kind of extension as short as the 2 is,even with a Skelton tang you are one strong son on gun!

Your curvature is evenly distributed throughout the knife and tang: I'm sorry to say it, but this is just Becker's usual abysmal factory quality control when tempering the steel: My BK-9 was like that, same side in fact, and I have seen others post their BK-9s with similar quality control nonsense, all to the same side, if memory serves, showing the same evenly distributed curve with a laser line on a flat surface...

The giveaway is that the curve is even, with no change in pitch (even visibly including the handle in your case).

I have to say yours is the worst I have ever seen, and I will keep the photo in a file as an example of what Becker needs to address if they are to be even considered a proper knifemaking company in my book...

No way I am ever buying anything under that brand ever, regardless of what they do, or how much they improve...

I know most Becker fans are in denial about this: Please don't argue that this is some sort of effort that was applied to this 1/4" stock...: The curvature continues into the tang, all the way: Even the splitting of the mother of all logs would not do a bend it all the way, including the whole length of the handle...

This is called shoddy manufacturing, period...

Gaston

P.S. On the good side, the thinness of the edge geometry looks good. Definitely a good user.

I have often wondered who would need a 1/4 thick knife with a blade that short. It is you! Well, and apparently a few others as well.

Were you pounding on the handle while the blade was stuck in a piece of wood?

Glad to see it was well loved though.

You really emphasize the ASS into Gaston. I am sure it's true that some slip through the QA cracks here and there, but what you assert is irresponsible. Kabar consistently puts out great knives and, as every manufacturer will, put a fraction out in the market with flaws. Is this truly a reason to trash a company, because you see a picture and only SPECULATE as to why it's bent?

Your will save the pic as "proof" of what? That you base your protests on speculation?

Like this well loved knife--GET BENT !

I would like to agree gaston, but I can't say enough good things about kabar, I Love every knife I have received especially this one. And yeah, that would make some sense being that it is stamped, but it wasn't bent when I got it that is for sure. My handles used to fit flat on but after whatever happened to it they didn't fit flush. It's possible it might have started with a slight bend, but I had to have done something to make it worse if it were. Either way bent or not, I still love the knife and use it all the time.

I have many extra factory handles and would be happy to mail some to you if you wish or need. This knife is loved and has loved you back. Spameater12003 at yahoo dot com.

I suggest you try to straighten the handle before mounting new covers. Clamping them to a bent handle will bend and stress them as they are forced to conform, and it probably won't be long before they crack too.

BTW, it is inspirational to see a 2 so well used! Must say though, it doesn't look like you sharpen it much...

Hey, nothing lasts forever. NOTHING. But as the lyric in that Beatles song goes: "love is all there is" - and I can't tell you how much I dig seeing any tool this well loved. Yeah, it's got a little bend....still cuts stuff, right? It's not like you're using it for some celebrity chef thang. It's not like it still won't "tankety-tankety-tankety" through whatever you care to use it for....and I TOTALLY get your admiration for this tool that has seen you through so many experiences. I have some scales i'd send to you as well, along with some SS hardware. If spameater doesn't come through (which I doubt) or you want an extra set just as backup, let me know (click my avatar for email). That BK-2 kicks ass. AND has more character than a certain Disney, uh, character that seems to always pop in to....man, I just realized his Disney name is SO fitting....(what can I say, I've got two girls so yeah, I've seen Beauty and the Beast...). Keep beatin' that tank of a knife. It'll take it.

As you might have already guessed, this is where I do not agree with a certain detractor who's posted in this thread. This actually looks like a perfect example of how much use and abuse a Becker can take....despite Ka-Bar's obviously poor quality control. How many years have you owned this 2? A while, by the look of the roll stamp.....hell, I've got knives that cost three times as much as that two that "dress left" a little. Doesn't change the cutting performance in the least. As for straightening it before you put new scales on, I personally wouldn't even try. Just don't bolt 'em down too tight ;).

And yeah it looks a little rough around the edges but she keeps sharp[emoji1305] Totally forgot to mention also, since I have had this knife I have changed the blade profile and added a small swedge as you can see. It's a little more "stabby" and "slicey" than a factory bk2.

6 years that it has served you well. Big thumbs up, very cool thread! The fact that a certain guy didn't even notice the roll stamp and never minded asking about the age before commenting on the supposedly recent qc issues: lol. Don't know how this guy is still around here...

Nice post GSOM... and yes it is brutally apparent that he has no idea what he is talking about. In fact he has a nasty habit of purposefully trolling and attempting to derail threads and coversations pertaining to Beckers. It's honestly all kind of sad...

And to the OP! Nice well loved BK2! It's really a fantastic workhorse of a knife. Maybe a "workclydesdale" :D If you put new scales on it, you might try a set of rubber liners like what others have made. It might take up some of the gap if you have any. Either way, I know my old BK2 has served me well over. It's one of those knives I know I can do whatever I need to do with it.

This thread needs some more pics!
