The Knife made two years after it was discontinued.

The box.

The label.

The problem.

So......comments?

I have no clue.

I am clueless but not knifeless.

I'm hoping for answers/explanations/elucidations from Joe for this and my other thread, but I suspect the Buck folks won't be working today so I guess I'll have to wait 'til Monday.

Hi Rocinante,

My guess would be this special order knife was made for a dealer who had an agreement to buy XXX knives over a period of time. Buck made the full quantity of knives in "05" and the dealer is still getting the remainder of their order shipped when they need it. That's why the knife is an 05 stamp in an 06 dated box....that was shipped to you on 07.....I need to get me one of those 120's before they are all gone....I need one in black, BR, and Stag.

not being "fixed" i am missing some thign here...
would you fill me in
and if you want to make it simple
compare the facts to a 110..

Take a 110.
Add 10.
Now you have 120.
Then add a blood groove that ends in a blood gouge.
Then add an epiphanous moment where you say, "Wait a minute..... .....this knife isn't supposed to exist with an Idaho stamp on it."

I guess I didn't do that very well.

Hmmmm.......

Let's say your 110 had a blood groove.......

;)

YEA ! Hot dog that is the next step a blood grove on a 110!
you are brileant ! were you from ?

As I typed those words, I thought........Oh no, this is gonna start a whole new flood of orders to the custom shop and they're months behind already!!!

:)

BTW, for all interested, the custom shop has suspended work on everything except the 110 and the 193.

They may start accepting other orders in the fall.

Maybe you all knew that, but I just found out.

They are still making the General for Cabelas....I have bought five over the last four months.......They ran out and got new ones in so they are still getting them from Buck......

I just check four of mine from Cabelas and they all have the same grove mark and tang stamp......

lol...they are only $54.99 from them and it is the Proline with free sharpening for life....I bought Five since I had a $20 off cupon so they cost me about $50 each when I bought the last four....

Well I'm no expert but that sure looks like a 119 in a 120 box? I cant read the stamp but it looks like it says 120? I'm cornfused too. How long is the blade? Well figure this out.

The blade is 7 3/8ths. Actually, just a hair under that.

And yes, it is marked 120.

Ok, I took the catalog number and tried to figure out how many 120's we made since 2004. About 1300 and they went to a handful of retailers. I don't know if there was a special arrangement or what but they were not in the catalog. Its not an exact science on the quantity but this should be a ball park figure. Once I find out when we switched the blood groove process, I might be able to nail that figure down some more.
Hope this helps,

Thanks, Joe. Guess this knife is not such an oddity then......although I hadn't seen or heard of one before this.

Does your number produced include the ones that went to Cabela's? Or the BR models?

Subtract those and that 1300 number would be a lot smaller. I wonder how many non-Cabela Idaho stamps are out there.

I'm thinking I'll probably send the one with the bad groove back to the seller. I really don't see how you could fix that blood groove so it will look right, and maybe somebody else will be quite happy with it.

But I may send you the BR with the bizarre asymmetrical pommel.
