I was wondering about the possibility of coordinating a thread here in Bladeforums to establish the top 20 or 30 blades in the minds of posters here and then link that to a section in One Stop Knife Shop where those blades can be available for sale. The top twenty would include knives from many different categories of type. It could span from tacticals to slipjoints to Moras to custom Nessmuks.

Maybe the thread could work on the basis of a poll and could be updated every so often. It could be maintained as a sticky. I think it would make it alot easier for posters to find and order the knives being discussed. And the knives that are up for sale in that section would have a certain higher level of credibility among potential buyers. Im sure it would also be fun and informative too.

I think the idea has alot of positive potential and could be tweeked and fine tuned by the adminstration and more experienced posters. What do you all think about it?

It's a possibility, but honestly I try to avoid pimping 1SKS off BFC. I'll have to do some thinking on this

Great! I dont think there would be a poster on here that would think you are pimping, I'm sure it would be alot of fun developing the list but also viewed as a serious convenience for finding the knives that are mentioned here.

Well here is my idea, we ask for posters to nominate the top ten tactical folders, the top ten slipjoints, the top ten wilderness survival fixed blades, the top ten self defense hideout and so on. Maybe the nominating can take place in each particular forum. So the nomination for the best traditional slippie takes place in the traditional folders forum. Then we all of us vote in a poll. which ever model gets the vote wins it for that category.

One stop knife shop then carries each of those winners in a section called bladeforums top picks.

The posters get to see what people think is the best knife in each category, answering that perenial question at a glance, and have a place to buy them, all in one stop.

I second this idea: it would be worthwhile to see, on one or two pages, the best-in-class knives everyone keeps talking about. Easy for comparison, purchase, and reference. Wouldn't be pimping at all.

As for consensus, Ren's right--won't happen. That's why Shipwreck's idea of a poll would be interesting. My choices would probably not appear, but I'm okay with that. It'd be more productive to see the majority opinion, not mine!

Yes, and since knowledge and experience with the knives in each category can be so divergent sometimes, I think it would be an exellent way for the typical poster to get first class information by the people who are the most knowlegable about each class of knife. Im really excited about this, I hope it takes off.

I'm not sure how well the whole scenario would work in practice but I can see another possible positive outcome of such a poll.

Assuming you can get people to agree on a "top 10" of any category, it would be a handy reference for any newbie that comes along. Next time you see a post from some first time poster asking: " What's the best folder for dancing naked around the fire at midnight?", you can point them at the poll and say: "Look here friend, this is what the knowledgeable people think."

Short, easy and useful.

If you want to know why BF.C is great, this is why.

Spark has just never used bf.c as a platform to promote 1sks. It's incredible. It's insane! And yet it makes the place what it is.

Gollnick, I respect your point, and Spark knows how to steer his ship better than I could ever hope to, if he feels it would in some way harm the integrity of BF, I wouldn't want that. But promotion and making money wouldnt be what this idea is about, I guess its possible that could be a postive side benefit but the primary motivation would be the exchange of information, ranking of real quality knives, ease of ordering and the fun of a contest.
