The Kothimoda that was part of the Pala specials arrived today. My mom has the digital camera with her on a trip so no pictures until after Friday.

Impressions of the scabbard. The artwork on it is impressive. The scabbard isn't as heavy as I thought it would be. The gold plated pin is just that. It came out while I was unwrapping the Kothimoda. I stuck it back in but its still loose; I'll superglue it in place sometime.

The khukuri itself is quite nice. The antler handle is beautiful and feels good in the hands. The metal buttcap looks nice and tough and the bolster has the very beginning of a habaki, making for a good lock with fully in the scabbard. The blade is nice but pretty dull. The sandpaper will be coming out soon.

The karda and chakma seem to be purely for decoration as small as they are. They also have rust pitting on them along the blades but nothing that some sandpaper can't handle.

With a conventional scabbard this khukuri would likely make a good user. If Dave had gotten this it definitely would have been put to work.

Bob I tried for a long, long, time to get Uncle Bill to make a standard model out of the Kothimoda Dui Chiarra style khukuri but he would never consider it.
I think he kept it in reserve just as the Kothimoda to keep it exclusive.
