Do any of you guys Carry a kukri when you decide to get some bush time in? I was looking around and I found one I like but I'd some opinions before I pull the trigger on it

Check out the Himalayan Imports section right here on bladeforums. For just a little bit more you can buy a vastly superior Kukri. Plus it will be shipped from Reno NV so you'll have it much quicker.

First, figure out what needs/wants you have. Khukuri cover a wide array from machete-like (or actual khukuri machetes) to axe-like, dedicated choppers. For me, I like something to cover light vegetation and some chopping. I find a khuk from 19 oz. to 24 oz. and around 17" OAL to be ideal. My current favorites are a CS Gurkha and a Tora Battalion/Regimental Issue. HI offers a wide variety as well. This size and weight is easy to carry and use, and very versatile. Figure out what you need/want, then do some research. If you decide to go with a khukuri from Nepal, customer service is paramount. It's an art, not a science there and lemons can slip out. You want to be sure a company will take care of you. HI definitely will if an issue develops. Some of the other companies can be problematic, like asking you to buy another khuk, and they'll ship out a replacement for the defective one with it (and the various Khukuri Houses can charge very high shipping). HI ships from Reno and you can call Yangdu on the phone:) Good luck.

I have a CS magnum kukri machete - it sucks for light growth; but it's a great chopper. I also have a McCurdy kukri. I don't care for the traditional kukri handle, so my choices were somewhat limited. (That doesn't mean I'm unhappy with them - quite the opposite...the McCurdy was exactly what I wanted)

Btw - you should lose the link.

Hope to come back to this thread after i test a very light weight Bonecutter i got from GK.

Overall weight is 24.3 oz (with sheath).
Blade weight 16.3 oz.
Overall length 14 inch
Blade length 9.4 inch.
The belly is 2 inch.
Very light khukuri.

My best hope is to see if i can have a khuk that does what a parang do at such weight and balance.
At 14" it is very compact to lace around your waist.

If you are going to pull the trigger on khukuri, than go straight to the source and get the genuine one, handmade in Nepal...(agree with Dirtbiker post) Himalayan Imports (see HI forum here) or Khukuri House (KHHI),,,both are masters of their craft,,,these are wicked blades

Sounds nice Jay! My Tora Batt. is only 19 oz. and is extremely capable for every task I've tried. It can be carried and used all day. Your BC is a little more compact and light. It should be a sweet blade. I'm expecting a full review, of course:D I handled an original BC a while back and it was light and compact. A very handy blade indeed.

Amazing about khuks is they are possibly most versatile multifunction tools ever... They will substitute for almost every edged tools in one - an axe, machete, knife, pry bar, some of them even sword,if you need a fine work, they come with karda...One of the most amazing tools out there to carry all these options in one...Of course, there is a significant difference in between particular models, small, medium or large ones each will perform better in different task...Up to everyone to option for suitable piece.

My HI VUK [village utility knife] is a rough finished 16" 19 oz tool that has replaced my CS Trailmaster and Becker Brute in my pack and is a great all around camp tool even doing a passable job as a spatula when that was forgotten on a car camping trip. Get one of the VUK's if you can. Real user's!--KV

Que Pasa Juanito!
I last checked my Khadka BC and it has a 22mm bevel height which explains its chip flying ability.:D
Will give you the heads up on the review, as usual.
