Our up and coming young kami, Kumar, who seems to enjoy making the lightweight "fighters" got this one finished up before he took off for Dasein. It is just a shade under 20 inches, with a 6.5 inch nice sized handle. Blade is 1/4 inch thick and 1.25 wide which looks very strange and weak to me compared to that AK Bowie but our pal, Julian, says his little Kumar fighter is much tougher than it looks so I'm hoping the same will hold true for this one. But I ain't doing my AK lateral strength test on this one!

This 20 incher weighs in at just a shade over a pound. Compared to what I am used to handling this khukuri feels feather light and is very, very quick. Fit and finish are excellent. This blade was made from a worn out file as Kumar likes to do and shows some hatchmarks from the basic file. My file tells me he got a good do on hardening and the blade is razor sharp. Great 6.5 inch karda and good chakma. Scabbard and frog very, very good.

The bad news is this one is already spoken for. The good news is Kumar will make others if we want them. Price is $150. Sign up at your leisure if interested.

That is a beauty, Uncle. It's specs are similar to what I had envisioned for the Chainpuri that we are discussing. Which leads me to the question, how does this differ from a traditional Chainpuri model?

Oh my. Yes, that's freakin' GREAT. Looks to be just a bit lighter and faster than that 21"er. For right now I'm going to stand pat 'cuz I just scored the Sifu but...I would recommend these to anyone and I hope they become regular enough that they'll be available to me when I'm finally ready to score one.

But ya, he's headed in the right direction. In fact, he's headed down the same path Fairbairn went - remember the Cobra? The size and heft was almost identical to this and the shape wasn't far off. Functionally they were damn near the same piece. FairBairn designed that circa 1952/53 in Egypt not long after exposure to Ghurkas and Khukuris.

...the major difference is the handle.
That being the case, any chance of getting these just a tad longer, say 22"-24" or so? If so, I'll gladly stop nagging about a HI Chainpuri.

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket, Babe, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride.

Dyad'ko Bill,

I'm interested if there will be any field reports on this from any martial arts practicioners(sp?) as to how they evaluate this khukuri, or at least a good eval from the owner of this piece.

Harry
