I needed some work done on my computer. George, my computer guru, wasn’t available. I took it to a local place. It wasn’t Jerusalem Computers, but it had a similar “I’m a Christian” name. I’d used him before, and got good service.

He called and said my CD drive was bad. It had been working for me, but these things happen. I said, “Fine. Replace it.” When I got my CPU back, the brand new disk drive didn’t work. I’d paid the man to replace a drive that worked with a drive that didn’t work. I called him about it. He refused to fix it. He said it would cost him too much. By then George was back in town. He talked to ‘Mr. Jerusalem’. “Aren’t you willing to stand behind your work?” “No.”

George bought a set of thumb drives and gave them to me as a gift. I fell in love with the thumb drive. Not just because I didn’t need that disk drive. They meant I could keep a full backup of my documents in my pocket. That was a hell of a nice gift.

I’d owned a Buck Lancer with stag covers for years. Buck still makes the Lancer, but not with stag. Buck wisely omitted any shield, which showed the scales off nicely. I don’t know why I bought it, since I always carry a small stockman. Probably because I love stag. What a pretty little knife.

I’d seen George open shipping boxes with a pen. The next time I saw him, I gave him that Lancer. He asked, “What makes you think it’s a Buck…Oh, it says so on the blade.” On a later occasion George had to open a box for my machine. He pulled out the Lancer and said, “I always have this with me.”

Good. It’s too nice a piece to languish in a drawer.

Very nice
I wish Buck would make more of the stag/bone 300 series knives beyond LE's. I have two Lancer's, one the usual black saw cut, the other in dark brown jigged bone. Guess which one gets carried more? ;)
I don't have a pic but the bone Lancer was some type of LE awhile back, I found it on that online auction place for not much more than a new black one. Great little knife for my office job, and also fits nicely into my jeans watch pocket.

The Model 305 Lancer has always been considered a business suit or Sunday knife. It is right there in line with Jackknife's pen knife.
Here is a photo of a line up of 300 models in Red delrin. The 305 is naturally the smallest one.

In the interest of being quick, I didn't find my 305 Lancer line-up photo but did find the 309 Companion photo. The scale materials are the same. First example from left is plain brown bone, the third from the left is Redbone and the fifth from the left is a LE brown bone.
The 305 versions would look the same

Zippo's scales were likely one of those jigged bones scales from the 80's and 90's. The one on the right is a stag example.

Last photo I promise
Here is a photo I did for 300 models shorter or almost than 3 inches. With a ruler you can see how small the 305 Lancer on the far right is. The others are 309 and 310 clippers.

If Buck would scale up the lancer to a 3" main blade and proportionately sized coping blade, it might be my favorite knife.

As I said above, I always considered the Lancer 305 to at best be a 'suit' or Sunday knife. Its just too small for me.

Here is photo where I took the spey blade out of a 301 and a 303. The 309 is a OK watch pocket knife but I would rather
have a 303 with a close to full length sheepsfoot or warcliff blade over a pen blade. The 303 with clip and pen would be ok but I like this rounded over sheepsfoot just fine. Blade on same end or opposite? I keep talking this design up to Buck people, they did a one blade on there own it just seems logical to do a two blade next.....ha 300

I wish I would have put a Lancer 305 and a Companion 309 in the photo to show the size relationship. If anyone wants to try one of
these on there own be sure to use the black delrin model with the external spring rivet. I ended up seeking pro help.

Good to here, he didn't just stash it. Converting non-knife carriers to knife carriers is good deal. A 305 Lancer is a wise choice, seeing as it's small and unobtrusive. Sounded perfect for George. I like the 300 series and want to see Buck elaborate on it.

Those are beauties 300Bucks!
My brown bone Lancer LE is just like your 309 with the shield, 2nd from right next to the stag. I have a stag 303 that I picked up that's become one of my favorites too, nice and gnarly.

More Bucks to look for LOL :D

Bingo!

That's why this is in Traditionals instead of the Buck subforum.

I never thought of that. Clever ploy and excellent result.
