Hello, Bill -

I just received the Chainpuri villager and I was very pleasantly surprised! I was expecting a solid, working knife that was somewhat rough around the edges… surprisingly, this khukuri is actually quite nicely finished (certainly as nice as any of the khukuris I had seen before I discovered Himalayan Imports). It doesn't have the beauty of a premium HI, but it is certainly not the raw piece of steel that I had halfway anticipated. I really like the Chainpuri-style (?) handle; it conforms to my grip very well (it should probably be noted that I have relatively small hands). I haven't had the chance to do any serious chopping with it yet, but I did take it out for a quick run in the brush behind my home. The relatively light (at least in comparison to my Ang Kholas) blade made short work of the weeds and scrub. I think this villager may take the place of my machete…it's light enough to function in this capacity but it is also robust enough to handle any moderate chopping (after all, I've still got the AKs to fall back on). This khukuri certainly lives up to all of the praise the villagers have received on this forum…I'm delighted that I was finally able to get one. An excellent value!

Now for my obligatory stupid question…what characteristic causes this style of khukuri to be classified as a Chainpuri? Is it the configuration of the handle or the "closed" cho (or something else altogether)? Also, are Chainpuri-style khukuris ever made in the HI shops? Just curious…

Jim

P.S.: Thank you very much for the "crossed khukuris" pin. I've already affixed it to my cap…very cool.

If I'm correct, that leaves the very bottom one, at 80 bucks. I think I got it's twin, at 85 bucks, and I think it was a bargain of the year.

If I hadn't run out of even implausible scenarios to justify another khuk ( You open the linen closet and out charges this pink elephant, etc., ) about a dozen khuks back...

Rusty are you teetering on that slippery slope of HIKV?
Hang on, take a breath,a deep breath, now exhale slowly.

So is that bottom one still available Uncle Bill? Not that I'd buy it, I'm still trying to believe the Salyan is real. And do you know of any more villagers coming in? That top fat little guy looked interesting.

Rusty, the bottom is the only one left. I just checked and found the scabbard had a couple of small spots where the leather had been torn (about 1/4x1/4 inch) so I'm taking the price down to $70 because of scabbard. It will need a little dye and fixing up.

Let me just say "argh!!!!"

I almost wet myself when I saw what you were offering..

I must resolve to read this forum more vigilantly

Hi Tom:

Don't despair. We should be getting a few good villagers very soon. I hear there are a half dozen in the air.
