I finished work early today and decided to treat myself to a visit to my local collectable dealer. Asking my routine question about his storeroom stock of Schrades, I was surprised to hear there were none. He had sold them all back at Christmas. (I had bought two LB-7's from him myself since then). Well I asked him nicely to look around just in case one got misplaced. I had my mouth all set for another one of those NIB LB-7's for $27.00. He came back from the stockroom shaking his head, and laid a small Uncle Henry box on the counter. An 885UH King Ranch in the gray box with black stripe, Canada Works With Schrade / Le Canada a choisi Schrade. A nice red maple leaf and Built to Last A Lifetime / Pour durer toute une vie on the front. "How much" I asked. "Lil-oldman" (my name for him) said something I couldn't decipher. Now not too many of you here know it, but I am deaf. I handed him two twenties and got back sixteen in change. I may be deaf but I can count. $24 for a new in the box, all papers and plastic bag, 885UH. Such a deal! Last MSRP in '04 was $44.45! Oh, and the papers have the website listed so it is circa 1998-2000.

I'll miss my semi-monthly trips to the shop, but there is always the chance that he'll find another one in that backroom clutter of NASCAR junk and Case, Dark Ops and Ontario knives.
