So, as anyone who has followed my long and boring threads can tell you I have been tagged with the nick name "The Zann Man" which is probably appropriate because not only was the Umnumzaan my first Chris Reeve knife but to this day remains my favorite! However although the Umnumzaan is my passion ever since I first became a member of BladeForums my Avatar has been a post card from South Africa circa 1930 of a young Zulu boy.. an Umfaan. And although there are many members here on the Chris Reeve Forum who have fairly large collections of these long discontinued and very sought after little knives from CRK most of us have never had the opportunity to actually own one. I myself have been very fortunate (lucky) and have had the pleasure of being able to have owned five of these amazing little knives. This is my latest addition. But not only is it my latest addition it is kind of special in other ways. As you may or may not know the Umfaan was first produced in 1997 and if you search hard enough you will find right here on BladeForums many fine examples of these knives that are owned by our fellow members. Including some very rare pre-production models. Sorry, I am again taking the long way around the barn.. but I tend to do that when I am excited about a new addition to my meager collection. This latest example is as stated in the title of the thread one of the last Umfaan's manufactured by Chris Reeve Knives before they were discontinued in 2002. And I am sure everyone will find this strange but not only am I excited about the knife which is a great example with a very desirable CGG I am stoked about the stupid box it comes in!!
Unlike my good friend Cody (kidcongo) who has an amazing ability to point out the many amazing mechanical or technical intricacies of these fine knives I like to look at the subtle changes that have been made not only in the knives themselves but also the contents of the packaging but the packaging itself as it has evolved through the years. So I was very excited to find (I knew before I received it) that the packaging (box) was one of the first to have not only the "New" round CRK label but the first Blade banner of its type. (sic right) So, without further ado. Here are some pics of my latest find.
Thanks for sticking with me through this extremely long and boring thread.
All the best, Dave
P.S. Yes James I know "I have it bad!!"
