The sheath needs work, as has been mentioned. Terry Sisco is working on five of them from a previous run before the heavy duty bolster, seeing if a Scandinavian styel deep-pouch dangler sheath will work.

The Nepali style sheath might be workable if the sarkis put that ridge under the outer leather no more than 1/4" from the throat, and gave it a mini super-frog. Right now the belt loop, such as it is, is attached below the center of gravity, so the sheath with the knife in it wants to turn upside down. Oops!

The knife's center of gravity, by the way, is right at the maker's mark.

Absolutely Beautiful James!!!!
I believe that Kumar finally has it as well.

An nteresting point, on my system, a 13" color TV, when you click on the big pic the knife comes out just slightly larger than actual size.

I have to talk with Terry about one of those sheaths!!!!

James, is this becoming a fetish with you?

How about a Kumar Khukuri Kangaroo Karda Pouch type sheathe that holds the karda in front of the khuk ala the Randall pouches for sharpening stones?

As a way to make the sarki's sheath safe and functional, what about anchoring the belt loop at a second point higher up, near the mouth of the sheath, using glue or short nails?

I've just recieved my Kumar Karda. I absolutly love it, but the sheath is pretty worthless. Sorry to be so blunt Uncle. So I would like to ask Terry and/or James to please post pics of the scandinavian style sheath when it gets finnished(HA!) I definatly want to order a new sheath from Terry when time permits, and I really like the pukko(?) sheathes. Thanks guys.

P.S. If you like knives I strongly suggest the new engraved karda. I just got it about and hour ago and I've been using it almost constantly for my daily chores. I just took a break to tell everyone how good it is. A real useful and beautiful tool.

Well I took that god awful frog off and replaced it with one of my own making. I also added a buckle for the handle of the knife to keep it from flopping around and made the frog longer. It isn't too pretty but it works quite well. I put a piece of leather inside the sheath to stop the slipping. Now it is a perfect fit.

I still want to see Terry's creation when it gets done.

I must be the only one who likes the sheath my Kumar Karda came in. My sheath holds the knife securely by friction, and is stable in the upright position when it is worn on a belt.

Scabbard on mine is fine, the frog is unworthy of mention.

My karda wasn't too bad, just had to clean off some laha and will be making a habaki slip on as I don't like the open bolster. Otherwise, typical HI quality.

Scabbard was good, but in consensus with the rest, the original frog needs to be deep sixed. I will be working on this to ensure that the scabbard and knife will not inadvertently fall through the scabbard.

Uncle Bill, speaking of the "Sarki with no name", didn't you promise a "surprising story" about him some time ago? Whatever became of that?

The sarki with no name is really a combination of all the sarkis we had plus one more new sarki and Bhimsen, Bura's oldest son, who does the tooling. The old sarkis reinvented themselves after Gelbu told them they would be "dismissed" if they did not improve their work considerably.

Gelbu told me he had hired this new sarki which he had but he did not tell me the old sarkis were still employed and were working at a new and considerably higher level of craftmanship. I thought the new guy was doing everything and could not understand how he could get so much top notch work done. And since I STILL don't know the name of the new sarki I am referring to him as the sarki with no name. I hear the names of new guys both kami and sarki will soon be forthcoming. Actually, I kind of like that handle.

You were right, Uncle. That was a surprising (and funny) story. And the name does remind me of those old Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. The sarki with no name rides into town and straightens out all the leatherwork at Bir Gorka.
