How To The latest Android update is driving me nuts with podcasts every time I drive somewhere

After a recent Android update to my Samsung S20 Galaxy, even with my screen locked, I get a random podcast playing or Google Maps would start whining about not getting a GPS signal.

I do not have an Android Auto capable car and the app is not on my phone. I went into the Google apps and uninstalled what I could and denied access to everything I could reasonably get rid of.

This got rid of the of "home screen" that kept popping up on top of my lock screen but, now I just get a random Google icon and a podcast of unknown origin starts playing. I have uninstalled Google Podcasts and still get these podcasts playing randomly while I drive. It is really irritating when Google Maps starts babbling from the lock screen 20 minutes or more after I get to my destination.

Does anyone know how to get rid of this unwanted functionality? My online searches keep taking me to various automobile sites to show me how to delete Android Auto from a car. My problem is the opposite with a pre-Android Auto/IOS Car Play capable vehicle and a phone that seems to keep going to some sort of Android Auto mode. How do I disable it from my PHONE!

TIA,
Sid

Try this
From Settings screen, select Notifications. Click More. At the top of the list it will say "most recent". There's a drop down there. Select ALL.
Find Briefings. Turn the notifications OFF for that app. You can also look at all the other programs that give you notifications, and have the option to turn them off.

This appears on my Android lockscreen anytime I drive somewhere, travel any distance on my tractor or, go for a walk.

I don't have podcasts enabled or installed on my phone. It appears "Google" is playing the podcasts. Deleting the "Briefings" has changed what shows up.

This functionality is triggered by the movement of my phone such as walking down my driveway.

Looks like you need to may need to adjust the settings on your lock screen.

From Settings, choose Lock screen.
Select Widgets.
Turn off everything except the ones you want.
I have mine to set to show only music. (So I can glance at the lock screen and know what's playing. Pandora plays odd things sometimes.)

I turned briefings completely off on my phone. I found the feed invasive and annoying. But I did it on my prior phone about 6 years ago, so I don't remember how.
Here's an article that is supposed to tell you how to turn it off completely.

After the latest android update, my Pixel has been doing similar things, and it interferes with the navigation app as well. I had to not only go into the settings when it was in the "driving mode" ant turn things off, I had to go into settings when the driving mode was off to ensure it didn't turn on. I was on the third day of a three day drive across the country when I finally found all the right settings to turn that annoying feature off.

It turns out on my phone, it was activated through Google Maps, not any of the settings in the regular settings menu of the phone. You might have to go through the settings in Google Maps (or whatever navigation/gps app you have installed), and the settings in your phone's "assistant" app as well. Finally, some things might be controlled under the "accessibility" menu in your Settings.

Thanks, I just got routing to a metal recycler I went to a few days ago.

Well, I got rid of the maps issue but the rest of it reappeared.

Turns out, I needed to search for "Driving" to find an obscure addition to Android buried in the settings to finally kill it.
