Apparently, we now need to use...

“The kinetic energy of reverse magnetic polarity technology”

(Say that three times fast...)

  ;)

I get why a company wants to sell a gadget, just making a buck and meeting a demand.

What I don't get, is why there's any demand for these low-end gadgets at all. Any that I've ever tried worked awful. Mystified why people get so terrified of just grabbing a cheap norton economy stone from the hardware store and sharpening their knives. You can literally get a working utility edge on a typical kitchen, fixed utility blade, or folder, in under 5 minutes and this doesn't take tons of practice or skill. People don't need to be BF sharpening nerds to get a good utility edge--people the world over have figured out how to do this for thousands of years.

I think many people are just very easily intimidated by anything that seems to require an attention span beyond "set it and forget it".

“The kinetic energy of reverse magnetic polarity technology”

That's a riot!
Their website compares to "typical carbide sharpening" so it must be carbide-based.

But wait, there's more! I found this nonsensical word-salad on another website:
  • The world’s only sharpener to use repulsive magnetic energy to perfectly sharpen the edge of your knife
  • No springs means you never lose compression, the nuclear half-life of the magnetic element is ~1000 years
  • Slip resistant, soft rubber over mold is comfortable for hand gripping and promotes safety when used on wet surfaces
  • Durable, all-in-one multi-station design provides 1 tool vs 3
  • 3 steps to sharpness: 1 align and thin, 2 remove burrs, and 3 hone and polish the final edge
  • Provides angle perfection - a 34° finished edge on every knife, every time
Who knew that magnetic fields could sharpen a knife! The should have named it The Magnetar.

I think many people have scare of what is new to them.
Is it easy reach a master level in sharpeness? No, it’s not.
Is it necessary reach a master level in sharpness for ordinary use of utilitary kitchen knifes? No, it’s not.
Does it take some time to learn (put in practice) how properly sharp a knife? Maybe.
Is it great to know you can put a very decent edge on a blade just with simple tools? Yes, for sure.

I don’t know if it is cultural but every friend’s knife that I take to sharp was extremely dull.
Many people want use a blade until it can’t cut butter then they resort to sharpening and then they want a fast and easy way to sharp a knife, a high speed bench grinder. I already did it and I gave up on sharpening knives sometimes ago.

First we need to change the way people think about blades as I did. At least people around me. Touch ups with frequency, some extra time when the blade calls for a profile.
Then maybe a tool like this could be useful in my neighborhood.:)

Take care of your car take some time.
Take care of your home take some time.
Take care of your guns take some time.
Take care of your bike take some time.
Why not dedicate some time to take care of your knives?;)
