The latest on the Camillus situation

Well sounds good.

I jsut hope that they do not get bought out like Schrade. Taylor really made a "mess" out of (what was left of)Schrade once they got the factory.

I hope so too, I still believe that Camillus can re-emerge as a viable company, but I'm an optimist ....

What did Taylor do with Schrade's Factory? I live about an hour from where the Schrade factory was, but I'm never in that area to just pass by.

Taylor sold allot of stuff off, and then moved the manufacturing of schrade/uncle henry/old timers (now known as "classics" by taylor) to china. Some rights (to the names of schrade) were licensed in conjunction with (and to) smoky (eknifeworks.com), (the old schrade-walden name)"schrade-walden", and some with these stamp are produced in china. Such as the yellow delrin models. And then the wood, and bone ones made by bear & son (all of which are really "medicore" quality) here in the US.

What Taylor has done is make a viable business out the brand. I hate to tell you but Taylor/Schrade sales are at least 20 times what they were for Schrade - at least from my perspective. I can't speak for the mass merchants who were their main customer.

I can't imagine that a buyer would leave Camillus as it is. It would floor me and it would be a mistake. I would suspect it will go the way of Schrade. I thought Camillus might be able to do that themselves but, apparently, there isn't much appetite for anything but a sale.

Knife Outlet has a reasonable take on the situation. It seems to me that Schrade really only had value in it's name. It's wares were really not all that great, IMO. Knife nuts are a pretty sentimental lot regarding where the old standbys are produced, but if someone is making the Schrade name into a more profitable venture, more power to them.

The yelloe Delrin "Schrade-Waldens" liscensed by Taylor are made at Camillus, not China.

I've been carrying one for a few months now and the paperwork that came with it clearly states they are Camillus contracts, and the knife is stamped "Made in USA".

Last Confederate don't bother trying to convice them with the facts, it won't help. ;)

Camillus has great products.... BSA line, OVB Fisk, the Darrel Ralph designs etc.... I don't see why it is sinking besides bad managment (as with all ventures)

Here is the latest news on the Camillus Cutlery situation, from The (Syracuse, NY) Post-Standard:

I'm guessing from your avatar that you're from syracuse. Do you know if Camillus has a store here? Or any other stores that carry decent knives? Other than Sports Authority and EMS I cant find one that sells anything good. There's a oriental store in the shoppingtown mall that sells cheap chinese stuff but that's all I know of.

This whole situation sucks and I really feel for the guys walking the picket line, not knowing if they will have a company to go back to work for when all is said and done. Things need to get settled.
