My wife tasked me with buying a few small gifts from Santa. This was one of them. I have always liked the looks of the 110, but not the idea of wearing a brick on my belt. Got intrigued by the 55. We all know what it looks like, so this is a crappy pic, but I am super impressed with this little knife. F&F are about perfect. Sharp out of the box. It is in my pocket as we speak.

Gave one of those to a friend of mine. Had a chance to handle it. It is very nice.

I think it's a real good lookin knife as well, hard to beat a "lil" classic:thumbup:

I had been carrying mine for most of the month, until the last couple of days......I'm really starting to miss it. Funny how you get attatched to a certain knife.

I picked one up a couple of months ago and really like it. It is fairly thin, rides well in the pocket, has enough blade to be useful, and has a large enough handle that I find it more comfortable to use than some of the small slipjoints.

I think the 55 flies under the radar of most of us knifeknuts here in the traditional sub-forum. The lack of various handle materials probably explains some of that. The fact that there's a separate Buck sub-forum explains some more. But even over there it's overshadowed by the 110 and doesn't get much respect. And that's a shame 'cause it's one heckuva nice little built-like-a-tank knife! Congrats on making that discovery, Dan. And thanks for starting this thread - I'm gonna slip my 55 into my pocket today and give it some love. :D

Hi guys!

Being honest, I needed to decide between the 110 and the 55 about two years ago. I chose the 110. But when I see that nice little knife, maybe I have to get the 55. :)

Kind regards
Andi

I carry a Buck 110 pretty often and it's a really well built knife. It's built like a tank, and I don't really notice it on my belt. But don't get me wrong, I don't carry my 110 when going to get groceries, I mainly use it for outdoor stuff. I always wanted a 55 but never got around to getting one, a buddy of mine carries one everyday and he loves it. Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks everybody. I keep taking it out and looking at it. It's a classy looking little knife. But it's a wolf in sheep's clothing. ;) (I have no arm hair left after christmas...more to come when I can find the camera. I also got a douk douk.)

The 55 is far more apt to be carried, and actually much more useful for edc knifin IMHO. Easy to carry, and still big enough to do most any task that needs done.
It's a great lookin knife too.

The 110, while it is probably one of the best buys there is, and very well built, is overkill for me. It's bigger than any non fixed blade knife needs to be, and I can't stand wearing a sheath. I know they have sold millions of the 110's, but I have to wonder how many of them just sit in a drawer. I don't recall seeing many people with a big Buck sheath on their belt. I do however love the 112's... It is still a big knife, but could be carried in pocket if needed. Even those, I think are best served in a sheath. YMMV

One thing I should mention, I sometimes carry my 110 in my back pocket next to my wallet, and that works great. It eliminates the need for a sheath, something that gets on a lot of peoples nerves.

They come in a couple of handles cales besides the wood scale version. I have handled plain bone scale, but alas did not photo it, and have seen a stag version. I have not looked up to see how many actual versions there were but I know of those three for sure.

I want one. I'm off to visit Amazon. Very nice looking knife. I just bought two 112s. I have 4 110's. Need a 55 to go with them.

Well, I ordered one. $30.79 with free shipping. Hope it gets here fast. I really like the American made, Buck Folding Hunting knives. Remind me of what was kinda the standard knife when I was a kid growing up in a rural coal area.

The 55's are IMO nifty little lockbacks I haven't quite understood why they aren't too terribly popular. I've been contemplating getting one for some time now and something always seems to get in the way but if I have my way I'll snag one in the near future. I'd absolutely love to see this model offered along side the 110 and 500 series through the Buck custom shop a 55 in stag and S30V would be killer.

I think the 55 is a swell size for the office, church or light general duty.

My Schrade 5OT is comparable in size but closer in profile to the 55's cousin, the 501. While I love my 110, I prefer the drop point of the 500 series Bucks for general use. Ditto for the shape of the 5OT. But still. The profile of the 55/112/110 is just so classic. Would be nice if Buck offered a thinner version of the 112.

I picked up a 55 at BassPro a few month back for a couple of reasons. This first reason was that while I was showing my wife's grand kids my knife collection, including some of from my childhood, they took a liking to an old cheapo lockblade I remember buying at Wal-Mart well over 30 years ago that had brass bolsters and wooden scales (Pakistan). I explained to them that it was a cheap knife and not something I'd buy again these days. Well, they still thought it was kind of neat. SO... I wanted something similar of higher quality and the 55 was the obvious choice. The second reason I bought one was because I had some BassPro bucks to make it a real deal...

Overall, I think it's a really neat knife, and certainly one I would have killed for as a youngster, but I can't say it completely rekindled my interest in traditional lockblades vs similar quality slipjoints. My biggest critique of the 55 is the amount of usable blade wasted by the long tang and the construction in general.
