Many months ago, I posted a thread on the lineage of the Steel Heart. I learned some in that post, as well as after that. I have expanded the lineage here. AFAIK, the Steel Heart is the current longest-running Busse model, BTW.
As they say, a picture says a thousand words, so I'll try to keep this largely pictoral. These pics are all borrowed, and many thanks to those I've borrowed from. I have not included variants in this lineage, of which there are countless, but I have included special runs (like 5/16" thick models and the ZT series). Unless otherwise mentioned, all SH's talked about here are 1/4" thick. Lets get started.
The Steel Heart 1
Made of ATS-34, 6.5" blade I think (but very wide), and a bird-beak pommel. Also, only two handle fasteners, which are solid bolts.
The Steel Heart 2 Bird-Beak
The Steel Heart 2 was made using A2, had a 7.5" blade (which had a smaller aspect ratio than the SH1), three handle bolts (still solid, not screws), and still had a bird-beak pommel.
5/16" Steel Heart 2 Bird-Beak, with Teeth
I'm not sure if this one is ATS-34 or A2, but I think it's ATS. It is (or was?) contender's. It is 5/16" thick, and has teeth, rather a rarity in the Busse world. From the pic, it looks like a SH2 with a SH1 blade. Quite a find.
5/16" A2 SH2 Bird-Beak
A brute of a knife, this is a 5/16" A2 SH2 with a Bird-Beak pommel. It still has the solid bolts.
Steel Heart 2 A2, not bird-beak
This was the first SH2 without the bird-beak pommel (except for the few non-BB SH2's that had solid bolts). It has screws as handle fasteners, a rounded hammer pommel, is made of A2.
5/16" A2 SH 2 w/out BB
Another 5/16" version of the then currently standard knife.
INFI Steel Heart 2
This is the first SH utilizing INFI. It still has the screw handle-fasteners and the smooth micarta handles.
5/16" INFI SH2!
One of the rarest Busse's I can think of that's not a variant/custom, this is the only one I know of that exists. It is a 5/16" INFI SH2. I think it's Eric's (you lucky dog
). Notice still the screw handle-fastners and the smooth micarta scales.
Continued on next post (too many pics apparently).
