Which knife? How much has it been used?

So far it's my Spyderco Paramilitary 2. I've had it for ~8 years and it's my most carried knife. I don't require using a knife on a daily or even weekly basis, but it has broken down more boxes than than I can keep track of and it's been relentlessly opened and closed to pass the time in these last 8 years. The DLC has held up well too

Do fixed blades count:D
If not XM-24 and George VECP 1 would top of my list. Have had both 3-5 yrs. Not a hard use type but they are as solid as the day I got em:thumbsup:
Cheers

None of my knives that didn’t have side to side play developed any that couldn’t be taken out by tightening the pivot. So they didn’t develop play actually the screw backed out.

I’ve had a little up and down play develop on knives with locks that wore over or had poor geometry.

Ive got an early round hole HG Griptillian, so whatever year they came out in. It sat in storage for a few years while I was moving, but it got a lot of carry time while I had it. Still solid as a rock.

I picked up a Benchmade mini auto Presidio in 2006 that I carried and used every day until 2017. I had the blade replaced once in that timeframe because it was worn to the point that it was too thick behind the edge. Anyway, I never noticed any blade play before or after the blade replacement. It still locks up solid and stays put.

That I bought new? About 25 years and counting.
Old Timer 7OT (USA made, obviously)
It was on my belt 24/7/365.25 up until last year when it was semi-retired by a Buck 110.

That I bought used? A c.1972 - 1973 Buck 110.
I may not have bought it new, but judging from the amount of blade that has been sharpened away by the previous owner(s), it was used a lot. It has no blade play in any direction.

The "Demo" knife I was issued by the Army Reserves in 1974, was in my pocket everyday for at least 30 years. All four blades are still tight. Since 2004 it splits pocket time with a couple Scout/Camp knives and a SAK Huntsman.

Buck 500 that I bought new in 1988. It was a daily user and then became my SGTM knife. Now it rides in my pocket in the regular rotation.

Zt 0562 elmax. Used well. Bought it when it first came out. No blade play.

Emerson horseman. Well used for 5 years. No blade play. No lock movement.
Same with my 562 Elmax. I've had good luck with my PM2s as well.

Blade play is interesting, what one person thinks is rock solid with zero play another person can discern bladeplay in. I've found all folders have some amount of blade play to some extent. The tolerances that allow movement can be discerned by an ocd knife nut.

I have had:

Tri ad
Axis
Compression
Ball bearing
Liner
Framelocks
Scorpian locks
Mid back locks
Rear back locks
Button
Strap locks

Hell, that ain't even all of them i think. Ive had multiple of most everyone of those locks too.

So much this! ^^^

I had a moment of realisation some time ago, that I can discern blade play where other people simply couldn't. It helped me relax about it all. Folders are folders, fixed is fixed. It's all good. As long as there is no play in use, it's not really a problem.
