On the evening of Saturday Sept. 26th the town of Sydney, Nova Scotia held its 4th annual Lumiere Nighttime Arts Festival along the closed-off streets of the city core. http://lumierecb.com/

For that event, Rick Marchand, Graham Tourneur(resident blacksmith at Fortress Louisbourg), and I teamed up to build a sword using makeshift shop set up outside on the lawn of the town library, at night(windy and freezing cold, btw), with very minimal lighting, in five hours. We had from 6:59(sunset) to 11:59 to do our "artistic performance", and were able to complete the piece that night. I did take it back to my shop and clean it up a bit and make a scabbard.

You can read a more detailed version of the weekend's events here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Three-Men-and-a-Forge?p=15322570#post15322570

This is what we came up with. Please give us your thoughts:

Lumiere 2015 Sword
Three Men and a Forge - All for Wrought
Rick Marchand
Peter McKinley
Graham Tourneur

Blade: Wrought iron, forged from a 100+ year old ship's anchor chain link that was dredged up from Sydney harbour, flat ground and hand sanded to 320 grit then etched and polished to reveal the grain of the iron.

Guard/Handle: Mild steel, hand forged to the form of a leaf. The handle is Cape Breton figured Red Maple with heat colored, twisted wire wrap, copper spacers, and a wrought iron pommel.

Scabbard: Figured Cape Breton Red Maple open spine case with heat colored, twisted wire wrap, copper collar, and 6/7 oz. leather upper with a hand turned Moose antler stud. The leather was dyed with vinegaroon.

That's a smashing sword, with an interesting hilt, great proportions, and a simply beautiful blade. But I LOVE that scabbard! Good stuff, thanks for posting this.

It's a great looking sword. Is the blade 100% wrought, or does it have other metals in the blade also?

that is one hell of a turnaround time! Never would have guessed, either. You made all of the things you did for quickness look like artistic choices rather than compromises. That is serious craftsmanship, in my opinion.
