I'm curious as to what the best specs are for this one are, weight, length, maker?

Thanks in advance,

JMB

Mine is 18 inches I belive. Don't know the weight.
It's a big bleeping blade that looks like it would chop through just about anything.

IIRC they run 29-30 oz. Little on the heavy side for the length.

Mine's 29 (Sher).

Depends on the users...no way to pin a specific without knowing that and the intended use.

Good timing on this. I just purchased a private sale M43 (from a long time member here) as I really liked the smooth horn handle. It's an 18 inch length so some work shows it to be just forward of the handle. I really like it despite the point of power being forward of the handle. Kami is Amtrak (per seller and the marks, Hopi/Nazi symbol).

I would agree with this, but on the other hand with the limited choping that I have done with mine on seasoned softwood, I think it would go through just about anything.
But I would definately agree it's on the upper end of what I feel comfortable with.
I also happen to be a fan of LARGE knives.

On the Blade markings are your refering to the swastika or the Four rayed sun ( Like what you would see on New Mexico auto plates and state flag)?

Swastika \Swas"ti*ka\, Swastica \Swas"ti*ca\, n. [Also
suastica, svastika, etc.] [Skr. svastika, fr. svasti
walfare; su well + asti being.]
A symbol or ornament in the form of a Greek cross with the
ends of the arms at right angles all in the same direction,
and each prolonged to the height of the parallel arm of the
cross. A great many modified forms exist, ogee and volute as
well as rectilinear, while various decorative designs, as
Greek fret or meander, are derived from or closely associated
with it. The swastika is found in remains from the Bronze Age
in various parts of Europe, esp. at Hissarlik (Troy), and was
in frequent use as late as the 10th century. It is found in
ancient Persia, in India, where both Jains and Buddhists used
(or still use) it as religious symbol, in China and Japan,
and among Indian tribes of North, Central, and South America.
It is usually thought to be a charm, talisman, or religious
token, esp. a sign of good luck or benediction. Max M["u]ller
distinguished from the swastika, with arms prolonged to the
right, the suavastika, with arms prolonged to the left, but
this distinction is not commonly recognized. Other names for
the swastika are fylfot and gammadion

Thanks all for the input. It seems that from the most resent sales/production of the past few months most are around the 34-35 oz weight with one from last week at 37 oz, while there are some much lighter between 29-30 oz. I also noticed that there are comments that there is more of a pronounced curve in this last batch from Vim while all seem to be the same length standard of 18".

Thanks again,

JMB

IMO, Tora makes the most accurate M43's as far as adhering to the traditional geometry, handle, weight and balance. Research them all, and make an informed decision... :)

I just got a second M43. Both are by Vim, who seems to really seems to have a knack for this blade. The new one (the old one is about a year old) is longer (18.5") and heavier though I haven't weighed it. It comes to a much more pronounced point. The best thing about it is the full-sized handle -- probably an inch longer than the old one -- which makes it much easier to use.
