Howdy all! Why type it when you can watch it! Here is a how-to video on the machete pinch grip. Hopefully this will answer some questions I've seen on the forums. This is just the first in many videos. Next up: how to chop efficiently!

Quality will be much better once the processing is done.

Good stuff! It's so hard to describe, but so easy to do, isn't it? :D

Excellent! Thanks for sharing. This is almost identical to the way we used our bass drum mallets in marching band. (not cutting branches but the pinch grip)

Machete Specialists out of Columbia, MO. Too bad they don't have a retail store, I'd be there right now!

Cool vid.

I'm using the wrong grip!

I don't have a death grip on it ... but I did NOT have the pinch grip. Tomorrow, I'm pulling out a blade and taking some practice swings. It's no good having a fine tool if you don't know how to use it properly.

That's how I learned... But I pretty much taught myself after many blisters. But one question... Who makes the best Machete? That I can actually get a hold of?

In a word, Condor. Lots of models to choose from, even though some of the more recent designs are unobtainable at present. Best production machetes out there.

Nice video!

Personally If I am in a situation where I am using a machete (hunting, camping etc...) I am wearing my utility gloves.

"If this machete goes flying into your foot or thigh, it's going to impede the performance of your machete."

PRICELESS

Thank you for the Video May be looking in to the new Rat "Junglas Machete" Thanks again!JOE

Appreciate the video, Joe. Been trying to explain this to people for years and they never got it. The VERY reason we built the original RTAK handle as big as we did was for this technique, but everyone complained the handle was too big. They didn't understand the concept. I have found that we Americans are that way about a lot of things though. We sort of power our way through things thinking muscle and gear, instead of technique and skill is the way to overcome something.

interesting - that's how I was trained to swing a sword 20+ years ago - never knew it was called a pinch grip.
The way it was explained back then was to bend your arm to 90 degrees, clench your fist at tight as you can, then try to straighten your arm without relaxing the hand any. won't happen.
relaxed (pinch) grip allows your arm to move naturally, so less likelihood of pulling any muscles and allows all your energy to go into the swing, instead of internal tension sapping your power.
also, if you pay close attention - when he gets close to the end of the swing, he closes those other 3 fingers around the handle and the blade snaps even faster and harder into the tree.

Thanks for the video. Now I have a name for the technique I learned as a little kid.
