I'm too tired and lazy to do up some mag bar on key chain pics. So I'll just get down to it. I was in a gas station today with other people when I noticed a big guy with a mag bar inside a unique sheath rig. It looked to me like a folder with an additional piece added for the mag bar. This was no hack job as the guy told me that he had it custom made. Why ? Because he said that his mag bar saved his life. He told me, between people jostling through and around us, that he was a bush pilot that crashed and the bar saved his life. He was in the bush for two days after the crash. I thanked him for the answer and told him that I understood. My time was up to pay for the gas. Now I wish that I'd spent longer talking to him. What season was it? Was he injured? So many unanswered questions now. Such is life. This did reaffirm to me that the worn mag bar and Fox 40 whistle paracorded to my key set is there for a purpose. Thanks dude.

They are all just toys until the day comes when you really, really need them.
That's probably a great story you missed. :)

I had a bush pilot show me a mag bar many years ago. He said he never went anywhere without it. After he demo'd it to me , I was hooked on ferro-rods and the like forever. Another item he said was always in his plane was an axe.

He used to fly in the Canadian North. He said those 2 items will save your life. He was right.

I just picked up a good tip from REI's site. Make shavings from your mag bar and put them in your tinder kit. When you need to make a fire, the pre-cut shavings will make it faster and easier.

yeah they are cool but there is some much better ones out there now. with a softer mag that actually burns hotter. i bought a couple from the gun show and they are awesome. i wish i could remember the name.

either way it definitely sounds like you missed a good story
