The making of a traditional Finish knife

Very enjoyable video! Thank you for sharing it  I intended to only watch a few seconds and then finish watching it this evening but couldn't stop once I hit play --haha. A real treat to see such old manufacturing processes in use!

Very cool! It was worth every second of the ~14 minutes it took to watch it. I particularly liked that he used a puukko to rough shape the birch bark handle of the puukko he was making.

Thanks for sharing!

Your all very welcome.
I saw that and just knew it would get some enjoyment here.

Definitely some beautiful craftsmanship going on, and a beautiful result to boot.

Very interesting indeed. Kauhava is about 80 kms from where I live in Vasa, around an hour's drive away. Every year the Kauhava Puukko Festival is staged in June and you can meet knife makers from around Finland and the Nordic countries and of course buy puukkot of all grades and prices.

Iisakki Järvenpää still has the knifeworks in the small town and not much has changed inside it! It has an exhibition area and shop to buy knives and other items and really it is a step back in time. I wonder when this short film was made? Some time in the 1970s I would guess?

Thanks, Will
