Since this was such an unusual design, I thought it might be interesting to show it being made. Here is pitdog`s drawing he sent me. Note that the overall length should be 8 3/4" not 9 3/4"

Here is the cardboard template I made this morning.

I`ll be posting pics over the next week showing the steps I use to make this drawing become a knife.

Here is the profile scribed onto the 1/8"X 2" stock.

This shows the profiled out blank.

Here is one with the holes drilled.

And finally one with the pattern. This is as far as I will go untill the weekend. I`ve got some other blades to profile, and tomorrow I`m going fishing with my daughter.:D

very cool John.. thanks for the pics.. looking forward to some more pics...

Work in progress pics are always great. Pit will especially like seeing his design come to life

Thanks Guys! I built the forge myself.

Why doesn't that surprise me? All those years as a tool and die maker you picked up more than one skill, eh?

Are all those bolts holding some kind of liners in John ?

I think the row along the bottom and the two on either end hold the bottom and sides on, respectively. I think the three above the bottom row probably hold liners of some sort. Obviously, John will chime in to tell us definitively:D

JC is correct on the first part. The top row of bolts hold a perforated mtal tray just above the blower pipe in the bottom for a more even air flow. The coal goes on top of the plate with the blade.

Ah, clever stuff John !!!!;)
