This is my first post on Blade Forum. Let me start by saying the I've found so much of what I've read here to be either useful, educational and/or entertaining and I appreciate this rich and resourceful community. Thank you all for that.
Last Autumn I (re-) discovered my love of knives and bought a Byrd knife and a CKRT. These were followed by a Kershaw or two and then I finally got an an Al Mar knife to cover my EDC slicing needs. I'm not rich, as such, but I can afford treating myself here and there and I enjoy quality stuff, so by February my knife system had been extended (and justified) to include the first Spydercos, Mcustas, Benchmades and a Klötzli (and one or two more, after all one needs a knife for every situation, does one not).
I have been very happy with all of my purchases. I aim to carry all my knives but sometimes I just go to my knife drawer, choose one and look at and handle it for a bit. I'm aware that this is not necessarily normal behavior (my girlfriend is amused by it for e.g.) but hey I'm old and tolerant enough allow myself some quirks. Anyway judging from what I read here I'm not the only one that does that sort of thing
Today I see that the Strider knife I vaguely had my eye on is available online and I am actually seriously considering purchasing my first $500 knife, considerably more than the $200 - 300 monthly knife allowance I had planned (I'm sure I can sort out a little deal with myself). I wonder where this will all lead to. I still enjoy my cheap Meadowlark but will I only be getting this kind of satisfaction from higher end production knives and customs by this time next year? Not that I'm unduly concerned but the kind of purchase I'm already on the verge of making would have seemed a ridiculous buy to me six months ago. At the moment it seems that my collection will be complete with this next purchase but having been a collector of various things all my life I know that the next knife will be on the horizon even whilst I'm savouring the first few hundred satisfying clacks of my Strider (already "my" Strider!) locking into readiness.
Maybe some of you knife aficionados out there would care to share your experiences and/or thoughts on this matter?
