The Manliest Man's Man Ever OR How to Deal with a Snake Bite

I remember being told tourniquets can be extremely dangerous unless needed to stop catastrophic bleeding. Any medical people around these parts as I sure don't know.

Man that took some nerve. A coral snake is the most toxic snake in America. They are related to cobras and mambas. Yikes! A bite from one of these things may not even register for hours until it kills you. A lot of people mistake this snake for a very valuable non-poisonous scarlet king snake. We used to have to remember this rhyme when I was a kid and I made my wife learn it when we got married: Red touch yellow kill a fellow. Red touch black good for Jack. The red touching yellow (black, red, yellow) is the coral snake. The red touching black bands (red, black yellow, black...) is the scarlet king snake.

No one was wearing a belt or shoes?

Great story, but my first thoughts would not have been to use the snake itself as a tourniquet

When I read the article, I didn't think about the type of snake, or whether a tourniquet was a good idea or not. I didn't have a single serious thought about it at all. All I was thinking was John Wayne wouldn't have done that! Even Rambo didn't do it! To me, it sounds almost like a Pecos Bill story.

Maybe they'll kick him some bones to use it for one of those most interesting man in the world commercials

He's very lucky the hospital had anti-venom. Coral snake bites are so rare these days that manufacturers don't make the anti-venom much, if at all, because there's no profit.
