Its saturday, and i nice day for testing her out and taking picturee...
(BTW i am just getting into knives and i have no idea what im doing)

Navy blade or not this she is an awesome camping blade. This was taken after i first started cutting stuff. The handle i think is Kraton and it feels seems to be both squishy and comfortable yet firm enough that it is extremely comfortable. The Handle has a nice middle swell to it though the end might be a bit narrow as my pinky started to hurt after a bit.

This is just showing the piece of wood before i try and massacre it.

This is after i hammered the blade through... it performed admirably, the flat grind made it easy to slice through the wood. The blade is .165 and the blade length is 5 1/8's.

I then proceeded to see how it would carve and once again the flat grind was very nice. The guard was only a problem when i braced my finger off as it made my finger hurt. Though it would have been nice if i had gloves or calluses. I was also able to lay my thumb on the blade as the part sticking out is only like half an inch so it only brushed the under side of my thumb. The good thing about the guard is that when i just gripped it regularly, i was able to use the guard to control the knife better... by bracing my hand against it as i sliced. It was not such an effective chopper, butt it dont think that is really the point.

Is decided to carve some spikes for no reason whatsoever and them hammer them into the ground with the pommel. The pommel feels very sturdy and you can see the tang connected to it.

And that is it really... This knife feels very sturdy and like the fighting knife that it is. The only bad thing i have to say about it is that the first time i used it to stab the very end chipped a bit... so small i could barely see it. Other than that this is probably one of the best feeling knives i have handled. I used to have a falkniven F1 and i feel like the handle is quite a bit nice on the KA-bar. W

This is just my opinion... hope you liked it

I wouldn't mind having one of these. Nice thread, thanks for posting.

Awesome post, and a helluva workout for the MKI.

I have liked this knife from the first time I held it, what a great design, and boy, is it not expensive. :D

Great post. Thanks.

I too have a Mk1 and think it is an awesome bushcraft knife. It has really become one of my favorites.

Great pics, thanks.

I did feel a little sorry that you hammered that poor knife through the wood. I liked everything else, though. :)

How do you compare the two? Sounds like you kept the Mark 1. I keep going back and forth between these two....

Btw, I would like to add one, as my do all mid-sized fixed blade.

I prefer the MkI. The handle feels better to me. Though, had the BK16 retained its saber grind, I would have kept it. Maybe looked into some Tommy scales with liners to fill my hand better. The real reason I got rid of it though wasn't because I didn't like it, but someone offered a Camillus BK7 for it which I like more.

Great knife... naked leather.

Citri-strip and light white Vinegar patina steel, Wire brush and Sno-seal handle.

My camp/bushcraft tool...

I'm trying to decide between the MK1 and the Bk-17. I really like the blade on the Mk1, but worry about the handle size. I wear a large glove and have heard both the Mk1 and BK17 have small handles. This is the problem with buying on the net.

Grab a std. wooden ruler, or the end of a tape-measure, like a dagger w/ the 0-end flush w/ the top of your thumb. What does the other side of your palm read?

Mine's ~ 4-1/4", and the Mk1 fits like it was custom made.

Anything up to ~ 4-3/4" should be fine. Bigger than that and the pommel might get to botherin' you a bit, so I'd handle one first. Less than that? GTG.

saw an old one of these from WWII in an antique store today. lady wanted 82$ for it (very good price IMO and a dream knife for me). it was in pristine condition but i just couldn't buy it.

anyways its an awesome knife, glad to see your showing it some love:thumbup:

This knife has popped up so much lately that I had to get mine out and start playing with it more. Love the looks of the stripped Patina'd version. A friend from western Australia posted these pics on another forum I am on and so I just had to get mine out of the car kit and have had it on my belt all day studying the weight. I am going to do something similar with mine so pics later on.
