I'm watchin The Matrix again, great flick, and just noticed something that doesn't work out. You know the bald headed guy that rats out Morpheus? He's in the Matrix jabber jawin with an agent about the plan and I got to thinkin, how did he get in there alone and even more perplexing, how'd he get back out all by himself? To get in you have to be strapped into one of the seats with the spike thingy in your head and someone has to program the ride for you. Then to get out someone has to call you at the exit point.
Me thinks the directors made a big booboo here!!

I remember wondering about that too, but 2 things:

1. He was the main guy that operated all of their stuff, so if anyone could set it up, he could.
2. The agents/Matrix were on his side, so maybe he had help.

I also don't specifically recall it ever being stated that it was impossible. Do they always need an operator to get out, or only when their planned exit time and place doesn't work out?

I had just assumed that he was having the meeting in the course of a routine mission of some sort. You know, like going to the grocery store as the main mission, and stopping off for a drink on your way home as the side (covert) operation.

As for the phone call, they definitely had enough computer power to have it call a specific phone at a specific, preprogrammed, time....hence...no need for an operator. I don't know, as I didn't write, direct, or produce the movie, but these are my opinions for what they are worth.

I was of the opinion that he wasn't actually in the Matrix, but that he was controlling something like an avatar, which is why he turned the screens off when Neo approached.

Maybe he set a timer on the ships computer to call a specific phone at a specific time. Probably had the luxury of automating it since he wasn't (presumably) going to be on the run from the Agents.

That's possible too, but with his little speach about how he knows the food is fake but he likes eating it anyway?

The phone call timer makes sense but the rest doesn't. He would have had to stick that spike in the back of his head and then fire up the program and then unplug himself afterwards.

I noticed a few errors in The Matrix. I can't remember them all, but the 2 that stick out in my mind are that one and one near the end. When Neo is going in to save Morphus he is shooting a 9mm and they show .223 case hitting the floor. I love looking for errors in movies.

I think the agents set it up so that he could get out. The agents can do whatever they want with the matrix, so it he was working for them and they helped, he could pop out anytime he wanted.
