Here is a display of Edmund Davidson's Mega Full-Integral Subhilt
that he appropriately named "Mastodon".

The raw bar of 440-C steel for this Mega-Integral weighed in at
52 pounds and 7 ounces (24 kg), when Edmund began with it in 2009.
The guard from top to bottom is 5” (127 mm) and presented a real
challenge while holding it to the 10” grinding wheel for the hollow grind.
The ivory was scrimshawed by Linda Karst Stone, and the full coverage
engraving is Jere Davidson’s work.

This was the first of 3 Huge fully engraved Integrals, with fully scrimshawed
Ivory handles that are Edmund’s part in a Barter deal for a MEGA TRUCK.

Blade length 12 3/4” (324 mm), overall length is 20 1/8” (511 mm).

These three huge Integrals are part of what is considered by Edmund
as "The Knife-Trade Barter of a Lifetime".

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Incredible knife, and an incredible story. Thanks for the link, somehow I missed this the first time through. That truck is insane!

I got a chance to see/handle this piece (minus the scales) at BLADE Show and it's BIG. What an ourstanding contribution to custom knives.

Edmund, Jere and Linda are all among the top of the heap in my opinion.

I got to handle this baby at Blade and wasn't quite prepared for the weight I was about to encounter. It is a massive, spectacular piece. And the one thing that kept running through my mind was "what happens if I drop it?". This baby wouldn't cut you, it would cut things off you, like feet and toes.

The embellishments on this piece are truly spectacular.

Best,

Bob

Here is one more of the "Three-Mega-Integrals for-a- Custom-Truck" deal.
As one can see, this dagger is just over 20" long...

Just to complete the information on the first of three mega-Integrals:

"Mastodon" pictured in my post #1 above is the only one of
the three huge Integrals finished so far by Edmund.

He began making the knife with a 52 pounds and 7 ounces (24 kg)
bar of 440-C steel, bringing it down to its final stage as shown in
the picture, weighing "only" 5 pounds and 1 ounce (2.57 kg)...

David, I don't recall seeing this in the thread, I must have missed it. I had no idea that Edmund was intending a three part deal. This is quite a monumental deal in the works, really look forward to seeing that completed dagger!

Best,

Bob

Well, Bob, did you see the other side of the deal?
The "Vehicle" side of this Barter?

Here it is:
It started with a 2005 Ford F650 adding 60 custom options into the truck.
This vehicle weighs in at 14,200 pounds (6.44 tons) and hauls 200 gallons
(760 liters) of Diesel fuel that feeds the Caterpillar C-7 Engine.

It is of course the one on the left... :)

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)
