Recently there was some folks unfamiliar with a super eraser, which is my preferred tool for removing rust on my hard working knives. I wanted to highlight its ease of use and effectiveness, hopefully passing on a helpful tool.
A small back story leading to this mini tutorial-
I went on a hike after a few days of heavy rain. What is normally a small ankle deep river crossing was waste deep. Of course I had a traditional in my pocket as most of us here always do. After crossing I wiped off the blade and blew out the obvious standing water. When I got home my knife was in need of a tune up.
Apologies as these pictures had to be taken at night and indoors as I wasn't going to let it sit for 24 hours with rust everywhere.
Here you can see the rust that has formed on the mark and pile sides-
A few minutes using the super eraser on each side and the invasive rust is removed-
Ten minutes on each side in a mineral oil bath and it's good as new-
Of note the super eraser can also be used to put a satin finish on bolsters and shields. Simply rub either with the super eraser in a single direction followed by 0000 steel wool. That was a gem passed to me by Mr.Primble when I first came to the porch.
Hope this was helpful-
