I love Christmas time.

Let that sink in a bit.

I love Christmas time. The time our savior was born. It’s a happy time, a time for family, a time for giving (as much as I wish all year could be giving, we, as humans, tend to forget that, myself foremost). A time for celebration! I love having people over, feeding them, celebrating, the decorations, the lights. All of it. Call me whatever, I unabashedly love it.

For me, the Christmas season starts on September 1st. I start making jellies and salsa, even some wine this year. The fall is still a month off in south Louisiana but it’s here in my mind. I start planning late evening activities with the family around a fire in the back. We do s’mores. We tell stores. We roast weenies. The kids love hearing of my deceased grandparents, for whom Christmas was their favorite time also. We decorate the house the day after thanksgiving, and start making driving trips looking at lights and buying toys for the less fortunate kids for different charities. I always take 2 weeks off between thanksgiving and Christmas just to enjoy the time, both alone during the days and with the family in evenings. Time I can spend the days cooking and the evening spoiling them and watching Christmas shows.

So, to celebrate that start of my time of the year, I want to bless someone with a chrismtas gift. I have been blessed by other members here multiple times, and it’s my turn again. I already know what you’ll win, but I’m not telling here. Just know that it has sharp edge or edges. All you have to do is say I’m in. But, I am interested to know your real name (first only is good, and I am admittedly terrible at remembering names so please everyone here forgive that). What’s your favorite knife pattern or size, and tell me why you like or love the Christmas season. Pics, of course, are pluses. Also, please have been a member here for a bit. I won’t rule out any specific numbers but if your first post is here or strictly for give aways, I may elect to exclude you.

I’ll start. My name is joey. I love <4” square end stockmans. The pics below are my Christmas season carry knife and my grandfathers uncle Henry. It’s cleaned more rabbits than I’ll ever see! I carry it to that family’s side party and on Christmas Day. Also is a pic of me and my wife and 3 youngest from last chrismtas. They’ve all grown some, some a lot. She has more hair and I have less. But they where gifted to me to love and care for and I thank god every day for the opportunity and responsibilities of that.

I’m not sure how I’ll pick the winner yet but it’ll be fair and the kids will have a hand in it. Even if it’s just them using an inline number generator. And, let’s say about 2 weeks. Sunday September 16th or in the days after, I’ll pick the winner.

Merry (coming) Christmas to all! And to all a good night. (Ok, not night yet but was too good to pass up!)

I love Christmas time.
You have a beautiful family Joey. And the guy in the middle looks kinda familiar :D… I am not in but I love the Christmas season also. My favorite pattern is the coffin jack but love many others that are close second…. gunstock, sowbelly, coke bottle… Thanks for the Christmas GAW. Btw I always sing Christmas songs year round. Love em.

What a great idea! Thank you for the opportunity. I'm in. My name is Trevor I'm 46 and I have only been collecting knives since 2016. In that time I have had the chance to handle some really cool patterns and the one that I like the most hands down is the easy open type Jack knives like the GEC#85 there just the perfect knife in my opinion. I don't have very strong nails so I really like the easier way of opening them plus they just look cool as hell to me. As for Christmas yes I love it too. I live on the East coast of Canada and by the time Christmas season is apon us were usually barried in snow. There was always what seemed like huge mountains of it to play on with my friends. I'd also enjoy going around the naborhood shoveling walkways for $2 a shot lol. Back in the late 70s and early 80s $2 actually bought you something and it was still a bill back then. The government did away with the $2 Bill for a coin in 1996 we call The Toony. Witch is derived from the nickname we have for the coin we used to replace our $1 Bill in 1987 The Loonie lol. Anyways that's why I liked Christmas as a kid and now that I'm an adult and live in a different city then my whole family it's definitely about getting together and catching up on what's been going on with them and in my hometown. Sorry I have no pitchers to add. Thanks again for the great GAW :thumbsup:

I'd like in on this one, My name is David. I like multi-function knives. Seems subconsciously I been drawn more to scout/camp type knives and spear point blades than any other in my vintage knife hunting. I think due to the fact my first real knife was a Vic SAK, and I carried various Vic's from 10 thru my early 20's. I was hoping to pick up a Vic Saturday but the hardware store had the prices set to high( 40 bucks for a recruit!) I love Christmas for many of the same reasons you listed. Although many of us seem to forget we give gifts in honor of the greatest Gift given to mankind. Very cool GAW, and I'm really liking the secret gift aspect, don't know what the wrapper holds until its time to receive it :)

Hi, Whatever!
Call me whatever ...
A generous GAW for sure. :)

My name is Steve, but I also answer to names we're not allowed to say/use here, since this is a family forum. :)

I'm not in, since I am most unworthy.

My favorite knife/pattern is the 4 inch and larger Stockman. At least that is what I've carried every day for the last I forget how many years.
(Full disclosure: An Old Timer 7OT or Buck 110 has been on my belt pretty much every day, for over 45 years.
I've carried a Stockman longer.)

I also like the large Sunfish/Whaler/Elephant Toenail/English Rope Knife, Pocket Axe, Emergency Spatula, and/or all the other names it's known by, the (two blade) Barlow, Canoe, and of course the 4 blade Scout/Camp knives.

May you and yours have a Very Merry Turkey Day, Halloween, Christmas, New Year, Aniversaries and Birthdays through at least 3250. :D

Thanks for hosting Joey, great GAW idea...I'm in.

I'm Chris. I too, prefer 4"+ square bolstered knives with my favorite being the Case 6292 Texas Jack. We are a deeply religious(Christian) family, so Christmas is always a special and busy time of year for us as we focus even more on the Savior. While we should always seek opportunities to serve and assist others, that attitude is amplified during the holiday season and it's great to take part in the effort. I enjoy giving to others and I always appreciate the exchange of thoughtful gifts with friends and family...especially the kind that come in knife sized boxes.

I'm in. My name is earl and I'm 41 years old.my favorite pattern is the large stockman or trapper. I've carried a yellow case for at least 20 years. Christmas is so special. We celebrate the birth of our Saviour. I love to preach about His live and mercy. It is a wonderful time when our church goes to sing carols. My family all gather together to fellowship
But the best thing about Christmas is that on that day SALVATION plan was birthed. And 33 and one half years later it was finished at the CROSS.

With all of the giveaways it seems like Christmas around here!

While I don’t get ready for Christmas as soon as you do, Joey, I do enjoy it because we get to spend it with extended family and enjoy dramatizing the birth of Christ with the little ones.

Since Christmas is really about the gift of God’s own Son for the sake of others, it seems most fitting to give my entry to someone else, so @traumkommode can have my entry if he’s willing.

My name is Joshua. I like clip points, but the lambsfoot is really becoming my favorite. I’ve already said why I enjoy the Christmas season, but let me add that our school did our first “lessons and carols” service last year, which was great because I usually miss the one our church does because we are out of town. I hope to enjoy many more of those!

Thank you! And yes, I often find myself whistling Christmas tunes at any time of the year haha!

I'm not in but what a lovely family you have. Merry early Christmas.

Thanks you!

Not an entry, but keep up the Christmas spirit.

Steve, everyone is worthy. You just have to accept it! And that’s about this but true for the reason of Christmas also lol. Thanks!

So many of your points are so true.

It most surely was finished. Thank you.

That is very generous also. Sounds like a great time!

I want to note also, that you need not be Christian, or even celebrate Chrismtas, to participate here. You can even admit that and I won’t judge you, nor change your status to me.

Im in. My name is Jonathan and my favorite pattern is a barlow. I love the Christmas season. Every year there is a large Christmas party at my parents house. Its great to see family from out of state and long time friends of the family I see but once a year. My son is 3-1/2 and last year he just started to grasp the concept of Santa. I cant wait till this year to see his excitement grow. Thank you for the chance!

First, I love Christmas too.
My dad loved it, my grandma did too and I pick up a genuine feeling of joy around then.

Second, I'm in.

Third, my name is Joshua and I'm named specifically after the one in the bible.

Lastly, favorite pattern seems to be a toss up between whittler, stockman and congress.

Thanks for this generous giveaway and for giving me a bit off Christmas spirit in September.

My name is Sean (Ernie is a childhood nickname) and my favorite pattern is the pen/sleeveboard. The length can vary, but it seems that most of my collection settles in the 3” to 3 1/2” range. Next in the popularity line would be a tie between whittlers and congresses. We don’t seem to have very many pictures of just my wife, daughter and I. Most Christmas pictures seem to be either our entire family or just my wife or myself since we are usually the ones taking the photo! I was able to scrounge this one up from 2 years back:)

Joey,
I'm in for this one. Looks like a great GAW and the responses have been awesome so far...I look forward to following along :)
You have a beautiful family and a great perspective on things. Thank you for your generosity.
I'll be the first to admit that I have been trying so hard to NOT think about Christmas yet! But it is officially after Labor Day now I guess and I have to agree with you wholeheartedly that it does bring a lot of cheer and good spirit and family and those are all things to be thankful for.
For me, the joy of Christmas has been playing the role of Santa Claus to my kids all these years. It always brings me so much happiness to wait until everyone is in bed and then put the stockings and gifts and everything together...and of course some of the cookie and milk that was left for Santa. My kids are older now but I still go through the same routine and probably will until one of them start taking the role over or I'm too old to deal with it.
I ended up adding my name to my signature so that others would see it around and I think it really helped me get to know folks around here. Very cool idea to bring it out in this GAW. Having said that, my name is Darren and my favorite pattern is a gunstock, coke bottle, camp/scout, or anything in tortoise shell acrylic (literally any pattern)...always accompanied by one of my beloved peanuts of course.
Good luck to everyone :)

Not asking for an entry, but good on you for posting and doing this.
My name is David and I am a Bayou Shooter member as well, though I frequent the site less and less. Christmas is one of the greatest times of the year. Celebrating the birth of Christ brings our family together like nothing else.
As far as traditionals go I’m fond of Case Tiny Toothpicks

Ok, I'm in! My name is Bruce and I generally prefer single blade folders with 3"-3.5" of usable edge, but I am always up to try new things and enjoy rotating my carry knives frequently.

I am not sure why, but I just don't have any real zeal for Christmas... I don't like how commercialized it has become, I rarely see any extended family, and I think the biggest let down for me is the weather! I am a native Floridian and the weather just has sucked here the last few years. Not ever cold around Christmas, lots of rain, just blah. I do enjoy seeing my daughter be excited by the holidays, but even then, it's not the same as when I was a kid and we would have a bunch of family around. We are slowly moving north, maybe one day in the not too distant future we can get to somewhere that actually has seasons!

Thank you, Joey, for this wonderful giveaway! My name is Jeff, and I love Christmas mainly for its focus on the Savior. I'm not into the secular aspects of the holiday, but do appreciate the increased giving and general good will. My preference in a pocket knife is for multiple blades, especially one with a belly and one with a straight edge. Since I always carry an alox Cadet in my LFP along with keys, if I'm going light then I carry a 3½" to 3¾" jack in the RFP, and if going heavy then a 4" plus stockman.

me is the weather! I am a native Floridian

We are slowly moving north, maybe one day in the not too distant future we can get to somewhere that actually has seasons!

After spending 18 or 19 years in Tampa-St. Pete, the Florida Keys and the Miami/Homestead/Florida City areas, I can say that Florida does have three "seasons":

Rainy season, where it rains every day for a couple hours to all day.

Hurricane Season.

Snowbird Season (AKA: "Winter") with high heat, humidity, and rain every other day or so.
:)

I can also tell you after "living" in Southern Nevada for almost 10 years, they have two seasons:
"Rainy" Season/"Winter":
"Mild" during the day (only into the 80's and 90's) and "Where the heck is my heavy winter coat?!" upper 30's to mid 40's at night.
It might rain once a month during this time.

The second season is:
The Hot Season:
120° and up in the shade during the day and mid 80's/low 90's at night.
I think I saw rain once during the Hot Season.

As you move North, just be sure you don't settle somewhere that gets the "Lake Effect Snow" ... unless you really like snow, and have some snowshoes.

Nice picture, Sean! Gotta love the weird cats (or are all cats weird??).

You forgot one season for Florida -- bliss season, where there are sunny skies, mild humidity, and fewer rain storms. Granted, it only lasts about a month or two and is split by the hot and rainy summer (bliss occurs usually in the early Spring and again in the early Fall).
