So I got my scales yesterday. The scales are a little high on top. Can I reduce the gap? If I do, what should I use? Will it effect the finished look? Thanks.
Sorry, camera is packed in the hospital bag... We re having our 2nd today or tomorrow. I can tell you exactly where it is. It runs above the closed screw to the blade and slopes down to run equal by the second screw. Sorry I can't provide pics right now.
Congrats!!!!! Heck, you should be focussing on that, and not on micarta lol. Why don't you get #2 delivered, then post us some pics when the smoke has cleared? I'm thinking it won't take a lot of work to smooth everything up.
You can sand those down. The finish was gotten with sandpaper, so you can just sand to blend and choose your grit to finish it. Good luck with the birth!
If you really want to work on your scales at a time like this, sandpaper should do. If it's a little too much material for sandpaper to remove, wood files to start then follow up with paper to approximate the finish.
If it's the factory micarta just loosen the screws and adjust them. There is a little bit of play in them. I just put them flush at the top and they are pretty close on the bottom.
I bet they are at the hospital right now having a baby and in the back of his mind he is thinking "Man, gotta fix those scales!" Congrats on the new family member!
Chad - you are truly one of the hard core Becker addicts! Lol!!!
Congrats on the new addition! I hope it's a girl. I had a son first and then a girl. That's the way to do it.
