Well, with all the threads flying around with pictures of super death dealing ninja blades of destruction in them, i figured this would be a nice change. I know scary blades are sometimes useful, but the general public does not always appreciate their blatantly obvious utility use (please note blatantly obvious sarcasm

)

Please, include some knives with blades of over 2 inches

I'd have to say that the entire line produced by William Henry Knives falls into that "mild" category. They're just too elegant to be threatening.

Signature line needed. Apply within.

Spyderco Dyad jr. Something about having two blades in the handle just makes it nonthreatening, maybe by lending a traditional air. Nice topic starter, BTW.

Swiss Army and Leatherman type multi-use tools with blades and other stuff seem to not scare people. Maybe that's because I hardly ever deploy the knife blade on one fo those things, but use a "real" knife for cutting.

I also find that, though local law sees it differently, a modest fixed blade knife (with woodcrafty look rather than military) scares people less than a folder does, because it doesn't open up.

Perception of scary or benign appearance is not necessily logical, and can be very individual.

The gentleman who maintains the www.knives.com page once said, over in the rec.knives news group, "A good knife does not intimidate. It makes friends."

My Boker Orion doesn't seem to startle folks much. I think that the blue crystal blade makes it look "fake".

A Benchmade 705 Mini Axis with a satin, plain-edged blade is pretty harmless, isn't it?

Professor.

The large Victorinox SAK's with locking 3.25" blades get comments that they are large, but get shrugged off because they are SAK's.

I don't know though, that black blade looks pretty menacing (at least I'm sure Hitlary, Schumer and Feinstein would think so).

How funny would it be if MicroTech made a run of full sized D/A Socoms (with that wicked looking tanto blade no less) that were all red with a white cross on the middle of the handle? Finally we would have a sheeple friendly 4" tactical folder. I want two

...Brusletto Balder - looks a lot like a craft knife - 2" fixed with birch handle (scandinavian style blade). Nobody looks twice when I pull it out at the office.
Cuts like crazy...

A butter knife.

Just kidding.

I would have to say either a Spyderco plain edge Cricket or a "toad". Or maybe any Swiss Army knife.

The William Henry Kestrel.

Benchmade-Osborne 940 is a contender.

It's a useful shape for most mundane "urban" knife duties, and if it was coming toward me I'd want to get out of its way, and it's very very civilian.
