Small enough to carry in an office environment at just 2 3/4", the 108OT is seldom mentioned as a "favorite" knife. Perhaps the blades are too small to do any work harder than opening mail and sharpening a pencil, or maybe it's too cute to be taken seriously, but this can be a handly little knife. This one's a beauty with smooth red bone handles:

I have something similar in a UH with a Muscrat/California clip in place of the clip blade.

Great knife.

That's a cool knife! I've never seen a 108 OT with bone handles before. I want one. Is it a special run or commemorative of some sort? Any tips how to find one?

Thanks,
Dave

My daughter is an NDT technician in the local Westinghouse plant and it's her favorite carry knife for work.
I tried to get her to try a 34ot but she prefers the little one.
never saw anything other than the Delrin sawcut handles.

It must be from a set or series, there is a serial number on the bolster. As to which set, I have no idea. I found it on eBay and if I recall, it was fairly inexpensive.

Here is a Schrade Walden Primble version of the 108ot:

Codger,
Thanks.
This is from the 70 catalog. The inside of the wooden box lid had an insert.
I see they still called the Delrin sawcut scales meerschaum plastic.

When viewing the Belknap/Simmons catalogs, you will have to keep in mind that they were not very efficient in updating their artwork and descriptions (worse even than Schrade), for example the 1974 Belknap still refered to Schrade-Waldens, and some of the clip-art was very old. While the catalogs do confirm what was sold by them in a particular year, the best provenance is the packaging of a complete mint knife as previously shown.

Guys, if I'm wrong on this, please forgive me. But, if you look closely at the "Old Timer" badge on the Junior Stockman pictured in the first post, it looks like the Taylor Brands badge. This isn't one of those new generation wanna-be's is it?

No, that is a red bone cigar box classic, and it just so happens that Taylor chose that style of coined shield to mimic for his chiold chitimer series. The redbone is a real McCoy. Del might tell us the year of issue. I cannot.

Edit: This may be from the Heritage set, not CBC!

Nope, not a Cigar Box Classic, the CBC stockman is on the 897 frame, not the 108, the handles are jigged bone, not smooth and the shield is obviously different.

Not a Heritage either, the Heritage knife is a larger stockman which was available with either green or red smooth bone, but the shield on those knives is different and says "Schrade", not "Old Timer," the tang stamp is different and the blade is etched on the Heritage.

The more I think about it, the more curious I get about this knife. It's not a cigar box and not a heritage. The shield is like the one used on a set of "Old Timer Classics" they came out with a few years ago. But that set had brown jigged bone and didn't have a 108 in it.

So what is it? One of the anniversary knives before they got fancy or something like that? I'd also like to know if there are other oddball models out there like this.

Dave

dlk, I was just glancing through Blade's Guide To Knives & Their Values and there is a reference to an Old Timer red smooth bone 4" Stockman, an Old Timer red smooth bone Junior Stockman and an Old timer red smooth bone Tiny Stockman, all offered in 1985. Mine of course, is the "Tiny Stockman," and this must be where it came from.

redshanks,
Thanks for the info, I'll keep my eyes peeled for them. Funny to have a "tiny" and a "junior". Normally the junior is the 2-3/4" one; I guess in this case maybe the "junior" is 3-5/16" (i.e. middleman size)?
