Hi All,
In Jan 2001 issue of Scientific American, there's an article by John D. Verhoeven - The Mistery Of Damascus Steel. Where the author claims to have unlocked the secret. With the help of knifemaker Alfred H. Pendray. The process is described in details, well that's in my uneducated opinion
Would be very nice if that's the fact. Probably some of you have already seen this article, I find it interesting.
One thing is though, that when describing his achievements Verhoeven states thet they (him and A.Pendray) replicated the surface pattern, chemistry and microscopic structure.
May be he's assuming but there's no single word how the knives made by his perform. We all know the legends about damascus steel abilities, including cutting a silk handkerchief under its veight.
I was wondering who do you folks think
May be someone knows the author or the maker or mey be even seen those knives?
For those who haven't had a chance to read this article I've posted the scans on my web page, The Mistery Of Damascus Steel.
I hope I am not violating copyright, though if requested I'll have to remove those scans.
There are 6 scanned pages and each pic is approx 150K, so it takes some time
