By AG Russell...

I found this on that popular online auction site and paid a good bit less than this knife sold for new. Made in Germany this particular knife is not marked with the steel used like some of the pearl handled Mohawks were (INOX Stainless). This one has not been sharpened that I can see nor do I think it was ever carried significantly. The stag is absolutely beautiful, especially for a modern production knife even showing some popcorn and is moderately thick. The ridging is thick and deep and the color is wonderful...better than my poor pics can do justice to.

The blade itself is beautifully proportioned with the swedge on the main blade forming a perfect spearpoint and the etching is excellent. The pen blade is well shaped as well but is not swedged.

This is about as excited as I have been about a knife in a while. The knife is about a 7 in snap and has zero blade wobble. This one is going to get some pocket time starting today!

There is one on ebay now and if you look at the stag on it and compare it to mine it is night and day. The one on ebay has a little bark, smooth, light brown in color...just looks like inexpensive second cut stag...I am amazed at the difference between the two knives. I know I wouldn't bid on that one after seeing this one.

You're right. The stag is beautiful.

Congrats on that.

That's a fine looking canoe. Having lived a good part of my life in New Yorks Mohawk Valley it holds a special interest to me.

Nice knife & great stag
Thanks for showing it.

This is my second Canoe, my first was the Bulldog seen here. And of course I have the tiny version of the Canoe...the Baby Butterbean as well. There is just something about a well done spearpoint that trips my trigger...they are hard to resist but finding vintage ones is always dicey. The Mohawk dates from the 70's I believe...the Bulldog is new..it is from '06. It was a combination of the wonderful swedge and the stag that caught my eye on the Mohawk...everything about it just balanced.

Very, very nice. I am a big fan of the Canoe pattern as well. And just recently have grown to appreciate Stag. Thanks for posting this. I am loving it.

I have a couple other stags but none like this one. I am afraid this Canoe is going to be the standard I judge other stag by now when I look at knives with an eye to buy. I just can't see average stag exciting me anymore...I want da hardcore stuff now!

BTW...if you don't have a copy of "The Dangerous Book for Boys" you really should get one for you and your son (present or future) or is you have daughters then "The Daring Book for Girls"...they are books to be enjpoyed by both kids and those of us who never quite grew up...just older.

Great looking canoe there Absintheur. I've also been tempted to pick up that book, even if it is just for myself.

Btw, is that the Ka-bar folding hunter I sent you in that last picture?;)

Yes it is...lol...living next to a CS Hunter and a Case Hunter...it is very happy but I haven't done a great deal with it yet.

I don't have a son but the book is great for those of us who grew older but not up.
