At least it better be...

Hello guys.

I don't post much, but I thought I'd post my experiences here.
As some may know, there's been a little discussion back and forth between european customers and SR.
The issues were price tags and taxes.

I figured I'd go ahead and try the system in real life instead of just complain.
So I ordered a Rat Trap from swamprat.de a while ago.
Today I got it. And a bill (more on that in a moment).
The idea behind this was that europeans wouldn't pay more taxes than necessary.
We'll see how it worked out...

Email invoice where I get quoted the costs:
SR Rat Trap € 169 = $204
Shipping intl. € 25 = $30
Subtotal: € 194 + 4% Paypal

Total: € 201,76 = $243.58

OK. I paid and Dirk shipped.
Shipping time grew by five days because of customs in Norway.
All is fine, as it won't cost anymore than it has already.
Wrong.

Today, I get a COD note.
$81.63 to cover customs fee and VAT.
Won't get no knife without paying, so I pay.

The total is now
$243.58 + $81.63
= $325

That's $ 325!
Here's a fun fact for SR, Norway ain't part of the EU - and I've tried to say it before.
If we were part of it, I wouldn't get hit with local taxes when ordering from Germany.
We are however a part of Europe, but that's not the same thing.
It may be hard to explain, but "Europe" does not equal "the european union".

Now I made myself look like a grumpy old guy again :D
I ain't grumpy, and at 27, I don't think I'm that old either.
And I'm certainly not rich, so I don't think I'll order from the German site again.

Sincerely,
Gunnar Sandnes

PS: the knife looks fine.

Is there some reason you are required to order from the German site?

Would it not be possible to order from Shomer Tec or the Rat site?

Announcement to European customers:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=316391

I did consider Shomer Tec, but they charge extra for foreign orders.
Shomer Tec said:
Shomer-Tec does not accept any foreign orders online. However, foreign orders are accepted via Mail.
All foreign orders (except Canada) must add 40% additional to cover air shipping, export documentation, etc.
..snip...
All payments must be made by Bank Money Order in U.S. funds, collectible in a U.S. bank.
So I found it to be too much of a hassle to go there.

I ain't really bitching. Money is money, and the knife is great.
My top post here just shines a little light on how things can get complicated when trading between the US, the EU and then other - recluse - countries.
Dirk was very responsive, and gave me the service we know from the SR Co.
AND the knife was up for immediate delivery from him!
That's worth alot to me, because I'm the worst "waiter" ever. Got no patience whatsoever :D
I said I won't order from Germany again, but now that I think about it... maybe I will!

The company store does ship everywhere.
I'm just waiting for the shakers to come back there.
A+ for the store option (but I'm usually asleep when the knives go on sale).

Gunnar
