There won't be an easy answer to this one. I am not even sure if there is an answer to this question.

If we were to take a poll right now, which folder comes to mind.

No doubt, we have to take into considerations the design, the locking system, the blade material, the value-for-money factor, the shape of the handle, the balance, the overall feel of the knife, etc.

Certainly, there will be a lot of dissension from some quarters but that is to be expected. As in Olympics, there can only be one winner, even if it has to be decided by 200th of a second.

Mother of all folders - which one springs to mind?

Strider GB/AR until.....

the Strider SNG comes up until......

the Busse folder comes out.

Actually the last two, the Busse and the Strider SNG will be equal, ie: out of this world.

Mother as in best or mother as in ancestor?

As in best, I'd likely tell you to pick a strider.

As in ancestor... I suppose the Spyderco Worker, Buck 110, a good slipjoint, a SAK... there's a lot that could answer this one.

As in both? Greco Friction Folder.

Taking all of your criteria into acount, but putting value first, would make me think of the Al Mar SERE 2000.

Sebenza all the way to the bank and then some, bar none, Period! :p

I like the new SNG, but that doesn't change how i feel about the good old Sebbie!

All knives are compromises or focus on one aspect of potential knife use. So there is NO ONE BEST FOLDER, nor can there ever be one.

For my particular uses, my Carson No. 4 is superb.

if I had to pick one, Al Mar SERE2000. By the way how do you all review or recommend a knife thats not out yet? bias?

Golok, much like the "Dream knife" question youre dealing with a mythical beast - tastes differ, ambitions change.. and sometimes there are too many questions that just beg to be asked but youre not even waiting for an answer...

but THIS is my (.) to the sentence :)

(that's the big knife BTW) :)

The navaja. The top knife is a medium size 19th century example, the bottom one is a 19th century ivory mounted khukuri.

Well since I am sitting here cleaning a couple the first knife that jumped in my mind when I saw "Mother of all folders" was the Carson E&E that I have open in front of me. Of course I am considering the knives I own. The next knife was the large model 4 by Carson......a knife I don't own. I think the Carson 4 will be a classic when people talk about tactical folders. Of course it all boils down to the knife that fits your needs.............I'm sure that a 3 bladed stockman pattern would be the mother of all folders to someone who uses it day in and day out. BTW, I am in the process of rectifying that large Carson model 4!!:D :D :D

Hey Blade Santa Cruz.............we agree!! and it ain't a Sebenza:eek: ;) :D

A 5" Strider GB (If there were such a beast!) Perhaps a DDR Aftermath. My reality.... The Emerson Satin Super Commander! :D
