I just received my first two Becker's in the mail and I have a few questions.

1. How do I tell if my BK2 sheath is the newer style that doesn't dull the edge (non-glass reinforced?)

2. Does the BK2 usually come with a recurve, or is this a manufacturing goo-up?

I love the BK9 I received, I think it will completely full my "chopper" desires that had me looking at knives I can't afford... Unfortunately, it seems the recurve on my BK2 may keep my from effectively being able to sharpen it on a stone - I am pretty new to water stones, and am trying to get away from my sharpmaker.

I was also surprised, the BK9 came shaving sharp!

1. I'm not sure
2. My BK 2 has a bit of recurve. Can you post pics of yours?

The BK-9 is a beast!

Here is the best pic I could get from my iphone using a ruler as a visual aide. I know it may not seem like a huge recurve, but I noticed it immediately upon pulling it from it's sheath - it's pretty obvious.

Some the ones I have gotten are like that, nothing that a few sharpenings won't fix.

Hand ground edges, what can you say.

1. I think the only way to tell is to run the blade on the sheath and find out. Some like 2 or 3 swipes are enough to remove it from shaving sharp.
2. The knives are still somewhat hand made so stuff like this can happen. If it bothers you too much give Ka Bar a hollar. Good people around there.

1. Visually at least, I can't tell a difference between my two sheaths (I told them about mine that dulled my BK2, and they sent me a new glassless one). I think just inserting and removing it a few times and checking the sharpness is the only way to tell.

2. Mine sure doesn't look like that, so I would say that something is likely wrong. However, its still obviously functional, so if you want to contact them or not is up to you.

Every knife is a bit different due to by hand grinds. That wont stop the 2 from destroying whatever is in its path. And btw, a slight movement of the wrist and you can sharpen a recurve, a real recurve, without much problem. They can be intimidating, but don't fret.

Through a game of chance I acquired some 1/2" by 6" stones, while trying to sharpen a badly abused folder I recurved it far worst than that, lesson learned. Back to my old 1" course stone and in a few minutes I had it back straight again. In the time it would take you to pack it up and put Beckers address on it you can fix this. You are going to take the area from 22.5cm to 25.5cm (in your pic) back maybe 3mm.

This is very good advice. And good honing practice.

recurve=not that much of a deal...

Sheath that dulls: I had that sheath and hated it soooo much. After taking the knife in and out like 300 times it stops dulling the edge so you should be fine if it is....note: if it dulls it dont sharpen it until it doesn't dull it.

I'd say, send it back in.
The lost millimetres on the recurve are lost servicetime of the cutting edge that you as the current owner didn't get to use even though you paid the full price. This especially accumulates since you most likely will have to regrind the rest of the blade to get it "straight" again, which is no simple task on such a hardened quality heavy duty knife.

Can't say anything about the sheath issue.

Wouldn't a slight recurve, such as this, make it really easy to find the "sweet spot" of this blade? I know that chopping is a bit of an art and that if you use the belly of a recurve to index to the "sweet spot" that it's about 1000 times easier to get the full momentum of the blade behind your chop consistently. Just sayin' it could be beneficial.

I actually like recurve. (kershaw blur, zt 0301 and such)

Has anyone come close to wearing out a bk2? Brab was probably the closest.
